From the Sunday Tribune: more men are dropping the razors and freeing their inner caveman. Citing celebrities such as George Clooney, who wore one in , men are finding it easier to let their facial hair grow out. TIME magazine, in an article on the latest beard "revolution", called the increased prevalence of beards "an act of rebellion" and that the men growing them are "trying to prove they are no corporate slave." more ›

If comics are an addiction, Tom Seymour is our dealer. The manager of the Lincoln Park location of Graham Cracker Comics combines a passion for all things geek with an encyclopedic knowledge that manages never to come off as elitist. Now you can catch the best of Tom on his OnNetworks internet show, “Bif! Bam! Pow! Wow!.” The quirky title is the only thing forced about the show. Each episode features Tom’s rants and raves... more ›
Chicago’s comedy scene is more than a small world, it’s a densely knit web. Everyone’s leaning on someone for something, from professional improv instruction to drunken 2 a.m. inspiration for the next routine. And with fame comes increasing gratitude for close friends and casual online “friends.” more ›
Chicagoist woke up this morning and thought to ourself, "If only we could think of something, anything, to do with this extra $500 in our pocket. Something glamorous, and possibly involving a Brangelina sighting." And then we read the Sun-Times, and all of our questions were answered. Ocean's Thirteen will have its premiere in Chicago at the AMC River East 21 on June 7, followed by a $500-a-head gala at the soon-to-be-opened Room 21. What... more ›
Depending on how you get your morning news, you may or may not have noticed that an elderly man was shot at Northwestern Hospital last night. “One person remained in critical condition Wednesday morning after a shooting the day before at Northwestern Memorial Hospital,” according the CBS 2 story lead. What? A shooting? At the hospital? OMG! What happened? Further down in the story, hospital spokesman Andrew Buchanan is quoted as saying, “It’s not a... more ›
Last month the March for Immigrant Rights brought around 100,000 people downtown to protest the unfair treatment of illegal immigrants. Officials are expecting at least three times as many people at this Monday's march due to growing support and the participation of a wider range of immigrant groups, which is making conservatives cringe. more ›
Back in the waning days of the late 1990s, Chicagoist’s college roommate came to visit us. Since he was a big "ER" fan (remember this was the late 90s when the show was still good), he demanded to see where “County General” was. We had to delicately break it to him that there was no such place though we did take him by its doppelganger, the old Cook County Hospital building. We further shattered his illusions by driving him past Michigan and Wacker to illustrate how George Clooney and Anthony Edwards would have been idiots to talk a walk down by the river during their breaks from saving lives. more ›
In the spirit of last night’s Oscars, we present this montage of thoughts: * Forget pimps: it was hard out there for Jon Stewart. Stewart is and was frequently hilarious, but what works on the Daily Show doesn't work for the Oscars. Like most unconventional hosts (Letterman, Chris Rock), Stewart was done in because he was expected to bring his sharp, cutting wit to a venue that doesn't appreciate it. An organization that rolls three... more ›
No, the title of this post does not refer to some alternate casting for Brokeback Mountain. Whenever Chicagoist is looking for guidance on a political issue, we don’t bother turning to the media, researching government records, or forming our own opinions. Why should we waste our time on stuff like that when celebrities are around to do our thinking for us? Most recently, Kanye West taught us that George Bush hates black people. And... more ›
