Half Way To Where?

Half Way To Where?

With Wednesday night's win over the Indiana Pacers, the Bulls reached the half way point in their season on a high. Not only did they win the game, but they did so without Luol Deng, Chris Duhon and Ben Gordon, who are all currently injured. more ›

Tank Johnson Signs With Dallas

Tank Johnson Signs With Dallas

Well, isn't that convenient? After being cut by the Bears following his arrest for suspected DUI, Tank Johnson has signed on with a new team. And that new team just happens to be the Dallas Cowboys, who face the Bears this Sunday night. Maybe it's truly coincidental, but the timing of Tank's signing sure does seem particularly beneficial for the Cowboys. As they head into their week of practice in preparation for this Sunday's game,... more ›

Bulls Sweep Heat

Bulls Sweep Heat

Chicagoist was pretty sure the Bulls could win their opening-round series against the Miami Heat — ESPN "experts" be damned. But even we didn't think the Bulls could actually sweep Miami. more ›

We're Going to Miami!

We're Going to Miami!

Da Bears are going to Miami! Da Bears are in the Super Bowl! While nearly all the football experts -- yours truly included -- thought the Saints would outlast the Bears in Sunday's NFC title game, they proved to be better than most imagined. Not only did the Bears win the game, but they made a damn convincing statement with their 39-14 victory. The Bears jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the 2nd quarter,... more ›

Good As Gould!

Good As Gould!

Chicagoist didn't expect the spanking the Bears administered to to the Seahawks the last time they met. In fact, the game wasn't decided until overtime, where the Bears won 27-24 on a Robbie Gould 49-yard field goal. The game was pretty much the nail biter we expected. Our 24-21 prediction was pretty damn close, and we were correct that Grossman's play (76.9 QB rating ) wouldn't neatly fall into either the good or bad category... more ›

Katrina: Whatta Bitch!

Katrina: Whatta Bitch!

Along with everyone else, Chicagoist has been watching as Katrina formed, advanced, and finally plowed over New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Our hearts go out to everyone who was there and who lost family and friends, their homes and possessions. In some ways, this storm was reminiscent of Hurricane Andrew, a Category 4 hurricane that immobilized Miami-Dade County (and one Chicagoist staffer) in 1992. Both storms crept slowly towards their target, leaving Miami and... more ›

Suit Filed Against City For Trying To Shift Blame In Porch Collapse

Suit Filed Against City For Trying To Shift Blame In Porch Collapse

John Koranda, who watched a porch crush his brother in the infamous 2003 Lincoln Park porch collapse, filed suit today in federal court against the city of Chicago and we say, "Right on." The city filed suit against him in February claiming that a number of witnesses, corroborated by an EMT that was at the scene, said that he and another man, William Fenton-Hathaway, were jumping up and down on the porch the night of the collapse. Koranda denies that he was jumping up and down and his suit claims that the city's suit is malicious and based on fabricated evidence. more ›

Wal-Mart Groundbreaking Brings Cheers? Or Was it Jeers?

Wal-Mart Groundbreaking Brings Cheers? Or Was it Jeers?

Well, depends who you ask. After a ton of debate the City Council approved the building of Chicago's first Wal-Mart on the city's West Side. A huge crowd showed up yesterday for the groundbreaking ceremony which included a high school band and a ribbon cutting. But the protestors also showed up. more ›

Chicago Building Department Continues To Crumble

Chicago Building Department Continues To Crumble

On Monday, five Chicago Buildings Department employees gave depositions as a part of a lawsuit filed on behalf of a victim of the June 2003 Lincoln Park porch collapse. The five employees were three inspectors and two supervisors and in their depositions they all said they little or no training on porches and most of them admitted they had no prior construction experience. more ›
