Republicans Call For Bipartisan Committee To Deliberate Over Housing Gitmo Detainees In Illinois
The last time we checked in with the Gitmo situation almost two weeks ago, the story was drawing attention both nationally and locally. In Illinois, local politicians were arguing back and forth over the possible transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to the Thomson Correctional Center in Thompson, Illinois. On Friday, House Republicans decided to make their concerns heard by calling for a bipartisan committee to study the potential sale of the northwest prison.
Quinn, Hynes Tangle In Debate
Though he wasn’t dressed in a flight suit, Governor Pat Quinn declared “missions accomplished” in today's debate with rival Democratic candidate Dan Hynes. The hour long debate took place at the Union League Club of Chicago, with Hynes and Quinn trading barbs over pension reform, personality traits and the state budget. Quinn reminded attendees that he took over in a very “dark hour” in Illinois history and that he “got missions accomplished whether it’s in ethics or getting things done for ordinary people in the budget or getting jobs.”
