This weekend, GT Fish & Oyster is giving away a mess of free bivalves to everyone who walks in the door. Yes, everyone.

If you don't win tickets - buy them. This is sure to be one of the best food events of 2011, and we predict that it is going to sell out fast.
Win Tickets to the Izard v. Tentori Quick Fire at Perennial Virant
Last week, we told you how you might be able to get tickets to watch Stephanie Izard and Giuseppe Tentori face-off in this week's Quick Fire Challenge. There was a lot of calling, re-dialing and fingers being crossed. If you didn't get tickets, but still want to watch this fairly epic confrontation (and eat the results) this is your chance. It's like Top Chef live in front of you!
Do This: Izard Vs. Tentori Quickfire Cooking Competition
The Boka restaurant group has been hosting "Quickfire" cooking competitions for a couple of month, pitting different executive chefs from their all-star lineup against each other in Iron Chef/Reality Television type contests. It's great PR, but here's the important part for you - tickets are free. Really. Free. Considering how hard it is to get into Girl & the Goat, it's probably worth reading on.
Restaurant News: Flourish Bakery Closes, New Chefs at Elate, Tribute
- Flourish Bakery, the independent uptown bakery that we've covered several times in the past year, is closing this Sunday, September 11. "We are so sorry we couldn't make this business thrive and we only wish the best to others that can," said owners Ed and Allison Madell. "Please, please, please support local small businesses. There are so many in our neighborhoods and they need you to survive." We'll miss Flourish (especially their idea for the family-friendly dinner club) and wish the Madells the very best.
Tour GT Fish & Oyster with Giuseppe Tentori
We toured the about-to-open GT Fish & Oyster last Friday, but we weren't allowed to take any pictures, since the restaurant was still finishing up construction. The Feast got in once things were a bit more in order, and Chef Tentori showed them around the about-to-open restaurant. We are excited to see the rotating series of chalk paintings on the back wall, and to add this to our growing list of "restaurants with ampersands." If you are breathless with anticipation, and you want to eat oysters at the GT-branded boomerang table, this video should keep you sated for a few days. Hints of the decor and menu have been trickling out for weeks, and it seems likely that this spot will be packed to the gills (ha ha) once it opens. Feast also has the entire menu.
Restaurant Week Review: BOKA
Restaurant week may be winding down, but it’s not over yet! Restaurant week runs until Sunday, Feb. 27, leaving you plenty of time to squeeze in a reservation or two. Still trying to decide which menu to take on? If you prefer to take part in the fancy and fashionable dining experience scene, with perhaps a slightly less exciting meal, make a date with BOKA.
Love Chowder? How About Beer? Chowdah Fest is a Perfect Fit!
2011 is the year of the first annual Chowdah Fest Chicago, brought to you by the creators of the Chicago Ice Cream Festival. We should admit up front that we aren't objective at all about this - we love chowder, and when chefs like Giuseppe Tentori are cooking it for us, we pretty much start swooning at the thought. At the event, inspired by a similar fest in Boston, nine different chefs and vendors will offer up their take on Chowder. Guests will get to sample all of them, as much as they want, while sipping on craft beers and wines. The event will take place on Monday, January 31 on board the 1910 ship of the Columbia Yacht Club, which should make it an experience not to be missed - the only thing better than eating tons of amazing chowder is eating it on a gorgeous boat.
The Lobster has Landed
As we reported earlier, BOKA's Giuseppe Tentori (and of the upcoming GT Fish & Oyster) is feeding River North two classic New England delicacies, lobster rolls and clam chowder, this afternoon from the window of the Gaztro-Wagon. Twelve bucks (plus tax) gets you the aforementioned and, hey!, a delightful sugar cookie for dessert. (Thanks, Twitter!) (Ed. Note - The entire stock was sold out by 12:30 - AT.)
Do This: "Soup-Off" at Custom House
Hosting ad-hoc soup kitchens have been all the rage this winter. From 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Custom House (500 S. Dearborn, 312-523-0020) the big boys get in on the act.
