It's Academic: Packers Eliminate Bears From Playoff Contention

The past few weeks have shown chinks in Green Bay's armor that can be exposed by a good game plan in the playoffs. Too bad Lovie Smith didn't have a good game plan last night. more ›

"Pigskin" Burger at DMK Burger Bar

DMK Burger Bar has created a new burger for the Chicago Bears that might make us venture into the place during the insanely-packed game days. Or at least, fantasize about it. The "Pigskin" burger is made with root beer-braised pork, a grass-fed beef burger, aged organic Wisconsin cheddar, pickles and onions. Oh, and "love," according to DMK. more ›

Weekend Diversion: The History of the Bears-Packers Rivalry

The last time the Chicago Bears battled the Green Bay Packers in post-season action, the Bears still played at Wrigley Field and it was just a mere 8 days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. So we thought as a lead up to tomorrow's much-hyped game, it's fitting to briefly review the history of the rivalry between the two teams, and why Bears and Packers fans hate each others' guts: more ›

Bears-Packers Preview

In a little more than 48 hours, the Bears will play what many are calling their biggest game ever... except for Super Bowl XLVI or that one game in New Orleans 25 years ago we still talk about. The Monsters of the Midway take the field at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon against their archrival Green Bay Packers, with the winner earning a trip to Super Bowl XLV. more ›

Governors Wager On Bears-Packers

Governors Wager On Bears-Packers

As the hype surrounding Sunday's Bears-Packers game continues to grow, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker have made a wager on the outcome of NFC Championship. Frankly, we're a little disappointed that they've decided to forgo the typical gluttonous smorgasbord of local delicacies. Perhaps they're still sticking their their New Year's resolutions? Rather than betting a pile of bratwurst, cheese and beer against deep dish pizza, Garrett's popcorn and hot dogs, the state leaders have decided to bet their philanthropic services. more ›

Morning Box Score: Bears Fall to Packers in Finale

Having wrapped up the second seed in the NFC playoffs, the Bears could have played safe yesterday and rested their starters to keep everybody healthy for the postseason. Instead, trying to keep the Packers out of the playoffs was apparently incentive enough for Lovie Smith to decide to go with his starters for the entire game. Even so, the Bears fell to Green Bay 10-3 at Lambeau Field, finishing their season with an 11-5 mark. more ›

Morning Box Score: Bears Put Away Packers

There is one undefeated team in the NFC after three weeks, and that lone perfect squad is the Bears after they overcame the Green Bay Packers 20-17 on Monday Night Football. In a tightly played back and forth game, the Bears relied on a couple of big plays to come away victorious in spite of Green Bay's dominance controlling the ball and racking up yards. Robbie Gould missed a field goal on the Bears' first possession, and the Packers took advantage of the resulting field position to claim an early 7-0 lead. The Bears' next turn with the Ball ended after Jay Cutler threw an interception in the red zone, not a good start for the home team. A Green Bay field goal put the Packers up 10-0 early in the second quarter. But a touchdown drive, set up by a 31 yard pass to Johnny Knox, was capped by a TD pass to Greg Olsen that cut the Packers' lead to 10-7 at halftime. more ›

Morning Box Score: Bears Sacked By Pack

Upon his introduction as Bears head coach back in January 2004, Lovie Smith said his two goals for the Bears were to win a Super Bowl and beat the Packers. In his first season at the helm, they went 5-11 but he beat Green Bay in his second game and thus ingratiated himself quickly into the hearts of Bears fans. In every subsequent season, Lovie Smith has managed to win at least one game against the rival Packers... until now. The Bears, who lost to the Packers in week 1, found themselves on the short end of a 21-14 game, and dropped the season series for the first time under Smith. Perhaps that's yet another sign it's time for a change on the sidelines for the Bears. more ›

Morning Box Score: Bears Fall to Packers

As if the the debut of supposed franchise "savior" Jay Cutler wasn't enough, playing a nationally televised Sunday night game and playing against the arch rival Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field meant we Bears fans were revved up for Week 1. By the end of the night, however, our excitement and optimism had turned to dejection as the Packers outlasted the Bears 21-15 in an ugly opener. That the Bears even had any chance to win the game was a bit of a miracle, but they actually took a 15-13 lead with less than three minutes to play. Unfortunately, it was one of those nights where if anything could go wrong, it did. more ›

Bears Open 2009 In Prime Time

For the second consecutive year, the Bears will find themselves playing in front of a national audience in the first week of the season. The Bears head to Lambeau Field for a week one prime time match-up against the Green Bay Packers on NBC's "Sunday Night Football." The September 13 game will be the 178th between the two foes, whose rivalry goes back to 1921. The Bears hold the 91-80-6 advantage against the Pack, with the two team splitting last year's games. Bears head coach Lovie Smith, who knows that beat the Packers is almost as important as making the playoffs, is 4-1 at Lambeau during his tenure. Can the Bears steal a week one win again in '09? When they opened on "Sunday Night Football" last year, they upset the heavily favored Indianapolis Colts. As for the rest of the Bears schedule, the NFL will release the full slate of games in April. more ›

Morning Box Score: Pack Attack

Morning Box Score: Pack Attack

With the Bears atop the NFC North, Lovie Smith's perfect record at Lambeau and Kyle Orton's return to the field, we Bears fans felt pretty good when waking up Sunday morning. But none of that mattered as the Packers destroyed the Bears 37-3. The Bears were equally horrible on both sides of the ball, where the offense managed 234 yards of total offense and a lone field goal while the defense showed little ability to stop the run or pass. more ›

Are You Ready For Thursday Night Football?

Are You Ready For Thursday Night Football?

Last week, that majority of football fans were unable to see what was perhaps the best NFC game of the year -- Chicagoist included. In the Thursday Night Football -- which airs on the NFL Network -- match-up of two one-loss teams, the Dallas Cowboys beat the Green Bay Packers 37-27. With the Bears playing in this week's Thursday Night prime time game however, the NFL Network's broadcasts will be carried locally. For those of... more ›

Season Saved

Season Saved

When Lovie Smith came to Chicago, he guaranteed victories over the Green Bay Packers. And four years into his tenure as Bears head coach, Lovie has lived up to his promise — at least at Lambeau Field. Sunday night, he took his 1-3 Bears into Green Bay to face the 4-0 Packers and came away with the 27-20 win. The Packers seemingly dominated the first half, racking up 341 yards of offense. Two key forced... more ›

Do You Want to Own The Cubs?

Why should billionaires have all the fun? Pretty much any sports fan has fantasized about how they'd run their favorite team if they owned it, and lots of people consider the Cubbies to be their favorite team. A number of them are using the Cubs' impending sale to try to get a piece of the team, even if they don't quite have a 10-figure bank account. Bears Season Preview

Bears Season Preview

The Bears open their 2006 season on Sunday against the Packers up in Green Bay. What a way to kick the season off! While the Bears look to figure into the playoff picture, the Packers are focusing on the Brett Favre farewell (maybe) tour. The Bears should open with a key road victory against a division opponent, but in these big rivalries, one never knows. So just how good are the Bears this year? That's... more ›

The NFL released the 2006 schedule today, so we thought we'd take a first look at the Bears' 2006 schedule. The Bears open the season against their biggest rivals -- the Green Bay Packers. Will Brett Favre still be their QB then? He has yet to indicate whether he's returning or retiring. Either way, the Bears can expect a win their opening game because the Packers will be pretty bad. Is it really a Bears-Packers... more ›

Just How Many QBs Will Start for the Bears This Season?

Just How Many QBs Will Start for the Bears This Season?

Following Thursday's debacle in Dallas, the Bears signed veteran QB Jeff George to a 1-year contract. George, the first overall pick in the 1990 draft never lived up to the lofty expectations and developed a reputation for being difficult. Which may explain why he played for 5 teams in 12 years and has been out of the NFL since early in the 2001 season despite good skills. But he and his agent have been lobbying the Bears since Grossman got hurt, claiming he's found a new passion for the game and has adjusted his attitude. He must be desperate to get back into the league if he's even resorted to looking for teams on Match.com! more ›

Bears Get Flu Shots, Tim Couch While Children, Elderly Can't

There's no word on whether Tim Couch will be offered a flu shot as part of his physical exam today. The Bears are bringing in the first player drafted in the 1999 NFL draft. Couch was cut by the Cleveland Browns last winter and by the Green Bay Packers during training camp. But the 27 year old QB claims to be fully healed from shoulder tendonitis. Could be possibly be any worse that what the Bears currently have on their roster? more ›

Bears Lose Opener

Bears Lose Opener

Chicagoist was in Vegas this weekend, so the Bears doubly hurt us yesterday. Not only did our team lose to the Detroit Lions 20-16, but in doing so failed to cover the 2.5 point spread and cost us the $20 we put down in the sports book. Who'd have thought Detroit would choose this week to win a their first road game since the 2000 season? more ›
