Chicagoist just loves a band that includes matching uniforms, manic energy and songs that have a sugary bite snappier than the mintiest Frango chocolate treat. Therefore Chicagoist just loves Peoria’s The Amazing Killowatts, a band that is celebrating their ten year anniversary this summer.

Chicagoist knows that singer/songwriter Kat Parsons has been kicking around Chicago for the last five years or so but we’re just getting to know her now.

As the International Pop Overthrow festival hits town for a two-week engagement, we’re reminded of how much we miss Material Issue. Another in a long line of critically acclaimed and enormously influential bands that never had the sales to match, Material Issue were the connective tissue that made it OK for bands like Smashing Pumpkins to wear their Cheap Trick influences on their collective sleeve. Not since The Undertones' “More Songs About Chocolate and Girls”...

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you know that today is St. Patrick’s Day. Yes, Chicago has a large Irish population and its history is dominated by the contributions of one particular Irish family. But like all other cities in the U.S., today is the day when anyone who’s worn a green shirt while eating a potato and watching a Colin Farrell movie will lay claim to a little “Irish” heritage.

So how’d that voting thing go for you? Felt pretty good didn’t it? Even if your candidate didn't win you gotta love taking part in democracy, steering the direction of the country, all that good stuff. Why not keep that good feeling going for the rest of the week and see some good music too?
