Sure, it's only 1 p.m., but we're calling it an early day to go eat, drink, and be thankful with friends and family. But don't worry; we'll be emerging from our food comas tomorrow morning and be right back here. (Don't forget: if you're out shopping, consider buying local.) But before we go, we'd like to give thanks for you. Sure, we have lots of things to give thanks for (family, friends, etc), but we're also thankful to have you, our readers, coming back day after day. 2009 has been the biggest year yet for Chicagoist and we're looking forward to a strong finish. While we don't always see eye to eye with some of you, you keep reading and without you, there would be no one with whom to share our thoughts about this amazing city we live in. Whether it's directly on the site, via our RSS feed, on Facebook, or on Twitter, you've stuck with us. So thank you for making us a part of your daily (and sometimes hourly) routine.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Turkey Roundup, 2007
Last year, perhaps a little earlier, we gave you a quick run-down of where you could buy yourself a turkey and at what cost. We felt that it would be nice of us to do that again for you ... not to mention the fact that we haven't had time to get a turkey for ourselves. So, without further ado, a decidedly skewed to the north side turkey roundup. Dominick's located at 6009 N Broadway...
Giving Thanks
The turkey's in the oven, the parades are on TV, and jocks turned analysts are ready for some football. Thanksgiving is here! Before indulging in the big bird and enough sides to feed a small army, let's take a moment to give thanks.
Happy Turkey Traveling
Remember those funny little day calendars our parents had during the 80s with words for all those unexplained every day things in life, like the piece of plastic on the end of a shoelace, or the little dance you do when you run into someone and neither one of you can figure out which way to go? They were called Sniglets. Well, there should be a Sniglet for the sound Chicagoist makes when we take our dog outside first thing in the morning and see that it's snowing, something other than "Shit!" And there should be a variation on that word for when snow appears on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Something starting with an F, followed by 30 U's, and ending in CK.
