Leave it to the Cubs and White Sox to play a game in which the final score wasn't even the big story. The Sox had an easy time offensively, beating the Cubs back 6-0 (Cubs recap, Sox recap) for their 10th win in a row. An Alex Rios RBI double in the bottom of the first was followed by a three-run homer from Carlos Quentin to give the Sox an early 4-0 lead as they roughed up starter Carlos Zambrano. And that's where the drama happened. At the end of the first, as he came of the field, Zambrano channeled his inner Bacon Boy Milton Bradley himself and threw a helluva hissy fit, hollering at his teams apparently over their lack of hustle in the field. Derrek Lee got involved and the two had a heated exchange before they were separated and with that, Zambrano was yanked from the game, pitching only one inning but enough to earn his sixth loss of the season. The Cubs relievers gave up two more runs while the bats were silent against the Sox' Jake Peavy who struck out nine over seven shutout innings.

Why Mariotti Really Jumped Ship
Now that the euphoria of Mariotti's resignation has faded a bit and we're basking in that lovely afterglow, one question keeps gnawing at us: why did Jay leave? Sure, we know he said he's gonna sell his soul to the interwebs now, but...really? Mariotti had just secured employment with the S-T through 2011, the S-T is not undergoing a bloody purge a la the Trib, the Sox and Cubs playoff chances were sure to be a boon for his rantings, and his side-job at ESPN has to be bringing in decent bank. So why jump ship when everything is looking okay? We just don't fully buy the interwebs argument.
