President Obama's Tuesday announcement of a National HIV/AIDS Strategy, the first of its kind to come from a White House administration, outlined a number of ambitious goals to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS domestically, but failed to address where funding to achieve such goals would be available for already-strapped service providers in Chicago and nationwide.

Today marks the observation of World AIDS Day, an event recognized annually as part of a global effort to raise awareness of the pandemic of HIV/AIDS, in addition to spreading education, fighting prejudice and raising funds. The day is also one of remembrance, honoring the lives of the more than 25 million people who been killed by the virus since its discovery in 1981.

Dance anthem-generator and gay icon Kristine W is set to pop into town tonight, performing as the headliner of the Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN)'s annual Aware Affair gala, the organization's premier fall fundraising event. The event could not be better timed for TPAN, an organization dedicated to the empowerment of people living with HIV. News emerged earlier this week that three HIV/AIDS research-focused Chicago health centers' would receive a $3.75 million grant from the National Institute of Health. The grant will jump-start the city's position as an "epicenter for AIDS research" according to reports.
