If they haven't already done so, Chicagoist would suggest that the Bears' coaching staff might want to do some more scouting of defensive tackles prior to the April 28-29 NFL Draft. And why is that? They might be a bit shorthanded at the position once the NFL deals with Tank Johnson. On Tuesday, the NFL handed down two suspensions for players who have "brought embarrassment and ridicule upon [themselves, their clubs] and the NFL, and...
Back in October, we alerted you to the brutal murder of dermatologist Dr. David Cornbleet in his downtown office. In the midst of tying up the doctor and stabbing him to death, the would-be killer was captured on surveillance cameras entering and leaving the building at 30 N. Michigan. More information trickled out in the form of added security camera footage from a Lincoln Park Home Depot, showing a man making an odd purchase, in...
Though the recent nuclear tests by North Korea and the subsequent sanctions by the United Nations haven’t been addressed here, we've been following it closely. Far be it for us to be accused of ignoring a story with such major international and national impact, especially since it hits home in this story from the L.A. Times about the Doomsday Clock located at the University of Chicago. The members of the academic journal, The Bulletin of...
In a blow to sexually frustrated, judgmental pharmacists throughout Illinois, the state will now require them to post signs outlining women’s rights to contraceptives. The order is an enforcement measure for Gov. Blagojevich’s executive order requiring pharmacies to fill emergency contraception prescriptions if they dispense birth control. In addition, the signs explain where a woman can file a complaint if their prescription is denied. It reminds us a little of those signs on drive-thru windows...
As you travel to far-flung corners of the country for Turkey Tour 2005, a few Chicagoans are returning home to visit for the weekend. We’ve had a bit of fun at The Lovehammers’ expense here and there but they’ve got the last laugh with a sold out show tonight at Metro, an appearance at Q101’s sold-out Twisted show in December and a series of sold-out dates with INXS in the coming year. Start collecting those...
Chicagoist always hears that bad things happen in threes, and if that's true, the Lincoln Park Zoo is hopefully at the “tail end” (har!) of a streak that has left three major zoo attractions grazing in the great unfenced pastures in the sky. October saw the tragic tuberculosis-related death of a 35-year-old African elephant named Tatima, while in January, another African elephant – Peaches – died of apparent old age (at 55, she was the...
In a letter to Blago's office, state Comptroller Dan Hynes' office has refused to pay for $2.5 million worth of flu vaccine that Blago ordered from Europe in October. Blago ordered the vaccine due to fears of a national shortage. Without FDA approval, Blago ordered nearly 700,000 doses from a number of companies overseas and had commitments from New York City to buy 200,000 doses, Cleveland to buy 4,500 and New Mexico to buy 150,000...
