For the second consecutive year, the Bears will find themselves playing in front of a national audience in the first week of the season. The Bears head to Lambeau Field for a week one prime time match-up against the Green Bay Packers on NBC's "Sunday Night Football." The September 13 game will be the 178th between the two foes, whose rivalry goes back to 1921. The Bears hold the 91-80-6 advantage against the Pack, with the two team splitting last year's games. Bears head coach Lovie Smith, who knows that beat the Packers is almost as important as making the playoffs, is 4-1 at Lambeau during his tenure. Can the Bears steal a week one win again in '09? When they opened on "Sunday Night Football" last year, they upset the heavily favored Indianapolis Colts. As for the rest of the Bears schedule, the NFL will release the full slate of games in April.

The Bears played their third preseason game Saturday night, hosting the San Francisco 49ers. With the Bears taking the field at home for the first time since last year's playoffs, all eyes in Soldier Field were squarely on Rex Grossman. Even before the game, camera crews and Chicagoist ourselves focused in on Rex's practice snaps. We wanted to see any signs of progress after Grossman's three fumbles against the Indianapolis Colts last Monday, of which...

We all know that gambling and the Super Bowl go hand in hand. The Vegas line on the game is available even before the clock expires in the conference championship games. There hasn't been a single Super Bowl party without "squares" since 1974. Even the opposing cities' mayors get into the fray with their wagers of local delicacies. But maybe it's not the best idea to go making your Super Bowl bets in bars. A...

There was no late-night shopping for championship T-shirts on the way home from our Super Bowl party. We had our intended course home charted out — one that would give enough time for the delivery trucks to drop off the first of the Super Bowl Champs apparel by the time we passed the Sports Authority on the way home from a party in the 'burbs. But there was no need to stop, because the...

Da Bears are going to Miami! Da Bears are in the Super Bowl! While nearly all the football experts -- yours truly included -- thought the Saints would outlast the Bears in Sunday's NFC title game, they proved to be better than most imagined. Not only did the Bears win the game, but they made a damn convincing statement with their 39-14 victory. The Bears jumped out to a 16-0 lead in the 2nd quarter,...

While they still don't know whether they'll be visiting Detroit later this winter, six Bears will be going to Honolulu. The Pro Bowl Teams were announced on Wednesday with six Bears mading the NFC squad. Not really a surprise, five of the six are on defense. Brian Urlacher makes his 5th trip to the Pro Bowl and will be joined by safety Mike Brown, cornerback Nathan Vasher, linebacker Lance Briggs and defensive tackle Tommie Harris....

The Bears defense was pretty much worthless on Sunday. Colts QB Peyton Manning added four more touchdown passes (now at 35 through 10 games) to his season total as he charges towards Dan Marino's record of 48 TD passes in a season. Edgerrin James ran for over 200 yards. The Colts scored 41 points against the Bears, and their stars all sat for the forth quarter. And the defense failed to score this week, as well.
