"They were saying, 'Well, do a couple of weeks, a farewell.'" Dahl said. "I said, 'It's not a farewell. You guys are taking me off the air. I'm not retiring.' ... "I still have 2 1/2 years left on my deal so, quite frankly, I'm not letting them out of it."
The move isn't exactly surprising, as the ratings for Dahl's show were less than stellar. Dahl has enjoyed a 30+ year career in Chicago radio, his pairing with Garry Meier leaving an indelible impression on the hearts of Chicagoans throughout the late 70s and 80s. Where Dahl will end up is of course not known, but will likely be at his Florida condo twiddling his thumbs as stations aren't exactly scrambling to sign million dollar talent. It's already rumored that WJMK will replace Dahl's show with a stream of WBBM-AM news, apparently to introduce Felicia Middlebrooks to a younger audience. Yeah, that should work out just fine.

Last year, we lamented the loss of the great DJ Dick Biondi who was unceremoniously dumped from the WJMK 104.3 broadcast airwaves when it switched to a “Jack FM” format. After spending a year in Internet and HD radio purgatory, Biondi’s back at WZZN 94.7’s “True Oldies” station starting this Monday at 9 p.m.

There are two ways to determine which posts were the most popular posts on Chicagoist this year: comments and hits. A lot of commenting tells us you've got feedback, you want to talk about things. Either the subject of the post or the way the post was written has struck a cord. A lot of hits means that even though you may not have commented on a post a lot, you went back and read it a lot. Or maybe you forwarded the link to the post to a lot of people.

For the first time in 21 years, Dick Biondi is not being heard over Chicago’s radio airwaves, a victim of the “try anything once” style of radio management that’s sweeping the country.
