Sox Shuffle Continues

The White Sox continue to shuffle their lineup around. First, a day after the rumors first leaked about a trade sending Chris Getz and Josh Fields (plus some cash) to Kansas City, the trade has been confirmed. Sox general manager Ken Williams tells the Trib the newly acquired Mark Teahen will play third while Gordon Beckham will be shifted over to second base.

Sox Interested in Alex Rios... Really?

Kenny Williams is always full of surprises. More often than not, they're the good kind -- like when he pulled Jake Peavy out of a hat at the trading deadline. But the latest rumors involving the Sox seems like a head-scratcher at first glance.

Cubs, Sox Land Single Player Each On All-Star Rosters

While it was no shock to see only one Cub on this year's NL All-Star Roster, it's hard not to consider a certain White Sox player as snubbed. Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly and Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle were the lone representative from each team named to this year's All-Star teams. Missing from the AL squad? Jermaine Dye, whose 19/50/.291 line wasn't good enough. Dye isn't included on this year's Final Vote list, which gives fans the chance to vote in the final player to each roster.

Giants Scouting Jermaine Dye

Having just returned to .500 with last night's win against Cleveland, it's not yet clear whether the White Sox will be buyers or sellers when teams begin positioning themselves for the post season. For much of the season, it looked like the year was lost and that the organization would trade off highly paid veterans while letting their younger players develop. But as we approach the midway point, the Sox have begun to play better and look like the could compete in the AL Central - they're now just four games back of first place Detroit.

Sox After Abreu

While there was no mention of Bobby Abreu at this past weekend's SoxFest -- and in fact a player of his caliber would seem to be the antithesis of what GM Kenny Williams claimed he was trying to do -- rumors persist that the White Sox are negotiating with the free agent Abreu on a one year, eight million dollar deal. Neither side is denying the talks.

Dye / Young Rumors Persist

Last week, White Sox GM Kenny Williams again found himself denying rumors that he was about to send his right fielder elsewhere in a trade. The latest whispers had Jermaine Dye headed to the Texas Rangers in return for all-star shortstop Michael Young. The Rangers were supposedly asking for Sox prospect Aaron Poreda in addition to Dye, and that might have been the deal breaker.

Kenny Williams has been actively retooling a White Sox roster that, while squeaking into the playoffs, was not anything close to a true contender for a championship. Three years removed from their World Series title, Williams finally realizes his roster has changed from what got them over the top. In addition to this week's trade of Javier Vazquez, who's the exact opposite of a big game pitcher, he has also traded Nick Swisher and the team has, for all intents and purposes, parted ways with free agents Orlando Cabrera and Joe Crede.

The city of Chicago landed both of our teams in the postseason for the first time since the Teddy Roosevelt administration, and all we got was one stinkin' win before both teams' fortunes sunk quicker than Wall Street. On Monday night, the White Sox saw their season come to a close after losing to the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2 at the Cell.

They're Ours! We were pleasantly surprised by signings announced on both sides of town in recent days -- the Cubs and Carlos Zambrano agreed to a five year deal worth $91.5 million on Friday, and on Saturday the White Sox announced a two year, $22 million extension for Jermaine Dye. Zambrano's signing caught us by surprise for a number of reasons -- because of the impending sale of the Cubs, because of the dollars involved...

Baseball's non-waiver trading deadline passes this afternoon, and while both our clubs have been attached to rumored moves, little has happened yet. While the Cubs look to add any missing pieces for a playoff push, the Sox were expected to be big sellers as they remain well below .500 for the season.

The Cubs held the White Sox to just two runs over three games, as they swept this weekend's series and ended up winning five of six overall in the crosstown showdown. Carlos Zambrano out dueled Mark Buehrle in Friday's game, limiting the Sox to one run and three hits as the Cubs won 5-1. The Sox bullpen let any chance for a comeback slip away by letting up three ninth inning runs. On Saturday, the...

We don't know about you, but we just cannot get that excited for this weekend's Cubs-White Sox series that begins this afternoon at the Cell. The Sox have lost 20 of their last 28 games since the two last met, while the Cubs haven't played much better. The "lovable losers" haven't been so lovable of late, with their manager being suspended for bumbing an ump during an on-field tirade, the now exiles Michael Barrett getting...

We really didn't think the White Sox would be out of the playoff hunt so early -- certainly not before the All Star Break. But Chicagoist has finally realized that this team's not going anywhere this year and GM Kenny Williams is likely laundering that white flag just about now so it's ready when needed. Which could be any day now.

Two weeks into the season, the White Sox had looked mediocre at best. Wednesday night was an entirely different story. On any other night, two Jim Thome homers and a Jermaine Dye grand slam would be the big news. But not Wednesday.

Chicagoist is becoming increasingly concerned about Sox GM Kenny Williams and his mental state. Has he been overworked the past few years? Does he need a break? Is he trying to get himself fired? Does he covet some scouting job with the New York Mets? Otherwise, we're at a loss to explain his handling of the White Sox starting rotation since the end of last season. In early December, he traded Freddy Garcia, a workhorse...

With all the hype surrounding the Bears and their upcoming trip to the Super Bowl, we've been neglecting the other teams in town. Just because they're not headed to Miami doesn't mean they're not making news, so we thought we'd give a quick Friday update on the Cubs, Sox and Bulls. Cubs The Cubs signed Cliff Floyd, former All-Star and Chicago native, to a one-year contract this week. Now the question is: what to do...

Major League Baseball announced the rosters for next week's All Star Game yesterday, and 6 members of the White Sox were selected, along with one Cub -- Carlos Zambrano.

What a difference a year makes! Last year, as we embarked on a new baseball season, we discussed the eternal optimism of Chicago baseball fans in light of decades of futility. But in 2005 something most unexpected and most wonderful happened. Chicago won a World Series! And it wasn't even the Chicago team that many thought had a shot at the title. While the Cubs entered the season picked by many to reach the postseason,...

Kenny Williams sure has been busy since the White Sox won the World Series. Had he simply brought back most of last year's roster, the Sox would have been a favorite to repeat. However, the taste of victory seems to have fueled an organizational urge to do everything possible ensure another trophy. Are the White Sox positioning themselves to do what the Bulls did in the 90's?

White Sox GM Kenny Williams pulled off a blockbuster trade Wednesday afternoon, sending center fielder Aaron Rowand to the Philadelphia Phillies in return for first baseman Jim Thome.

Already up 3-0 on the Houston Astros in the World Series, the White Sox swept the Astros by winning Game 4 1-0. The lone run was scored by Willie Harris on a single by World Series MVP Jermaine Dye with two outs in the 8th inning.

That positive premonition was right, as the White Sox won both games at the Cell this weekend! They took Game 1 5-3 Saturday night and won 7-6 in Game 2 Sunday night to take a 2-0 lead in the World Series at they now head down to Houston.

Following their 5-3 victory Monday night, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim eliminated the New York Yankees and earned themselves a red eye flight to Chicago to face off against the well rested White Sox Tuesday night in the ALCS. The Sox will send Jose Contreras to the mound against The Angels' Paul Byrd.

Chicagoist learned what it's like to be a Cubs fan over the past week. No, we haven't begun drinking at noon and we can still name the opponent without having to read it off the centerfield scoreboard. What we learned is what it's like to have your team go a whole week without a single victory, something Cubs fans have endured three times this season. However, such futility is a novelty for the White Sox.

The Cubs and White Sox both said goodbye (and good riddance) to former All-Star right fielders during the previous off-season.

Like the tulips beginning to poke from the dirt and construction cones sprouting along the roads, the annual optimism of opening day symbolize the coming of spring in Chicago. The Cubs and White Sox both open their seasons today, fans hoping the substantial changes each team made during the off-season will pay off with a World Series title come October. Will they? Chicagoist will give a quick summary of the changes, some points of interest...

White Sox GM Kenny Williams closed a deal yesterday just as Major League Baseball's annual Winter Meetings were wrapping up, sending Carlos Lee to the Milwaukee Brewers in return for Scott Podsednik and Luis Vizcaino.

There's a lot going on the the Chicagoist SportsCenter these days, so we're going to give ya'll a little recap of some things we haven't yet touched on:
