Bear, the Chicago Police K-9 dog who went missing a few months back, has gone missing again. When Bear got loose in May, he had been scared by a thunderstorm. This time around, it may have been caused by Friday night storms or it might just be an old-fashioned break-out. He went missing from his home sometime after midnight early Saturday morning. Bad Week For Grass Smokers
Olympic athletes, sports writers, and now simple towns folk: no matter who you are, it seems the gods are against you when it comes to just unwinding with some Phish and weed. This time, Mother Nature played the NARC. Those gusty winds we dealt with yesterday were also felt in South Bend, Indiana where they somehow tripped a home security system off at a residence. Police responded to the call but upon arrival, while they found no signs of a security problem, their police dog sensed drugs on the premises. Sure enough, the police uncovered "19 marijuana plants and 40 grams of processed marijuana." No one has been arrested but prosecutors are considering charges against the homeowner.
Bad Week For Dogs in the Burbs
Good Lord, what a pair of sad stories. First, there's the Park Forest incident where a police officer tracking a burglary suspect wound up shooting and killing a family's dog. Two officers, a detective, and the police dog passed the yard of the Walker family tracking a suspect. The Walker's dog, Princess (a pit bull/shepherd mix), began scratching at the door and, thinking the dog just needed to go out, a boy in the family opened the door for Princess. Princess, however, was reacting to the scent of the police dog and made a fateful move.
Park Forest Deputy Police Chief Mike McNamara said the dog ran toward the detective.more ›
