After a dramatic 1-0 victory on Tuesday night, the White Sox are AL Central Champs. They sure didn't make it easy, though, did they? Had the White Sox not lost five games in a row last week, they probably could have locked up the division over the weekend and had a couple days of rest like all other playoff teams. Instead, in order to win the AL Central title they had to beat Detroit in a make-up game on Monday, and then play the Twins in a one-game playoff.

Morning Box Score: Sox Lose Again
The White Sox had their ace on the mound Wednesday night, but it made no difference as the Sox dropped another game to the Minnesota Twins 3-2. The South Siders now cling to the absolute slimmest of margins -- a 1/2 game lead for the AL Central title.
Might the Sox Add Griffey?
The most persistent Sox rumor involving a hitter prior to the non-waivers trading deadline involved them landing Cincinnati Reds outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. Supposedly a deal was nixed at the deadline by Reds ownership. Word that Griffey has been put on the waiver wire and cleared waivers means the rumors of his coming to the South Side are reemerging. Supposedly, the deal continues to be held up by Reds management -- who don't want to remain on the hook for a large chunk of Griffey's remaining contract.
