Bulls Draft Recap: It's All About The Cap Space

Bulls Draft Recap: It's All About The Cap Space

As we mentioned yesterday afternoon, just prior to the start of the NBA Draft the Bulls agreed to send Kirk Hinrich and their first round pick to the Washington Wizards. The Bulls get a future second round pick in return, but the move was made explicitly to clear up even more room under the salary cap. As a result, the selection of Frenchman Kevin Seraphin doesn't mean much -- he was likely drafted at Washington's request, and will officially go to the Wizards on July 8 when the deal can be completed. more ›

Bulls Deal Hinrich, First Round Pick To Wizards

Bulls Deal Hinrich, First Round Pick To Wizards

We were expecting it and it seems like it's happening: ESPN's Ric Bucher is reporting that the Bulls have agreed to deal Kirk Hinrich and their first round pick in tonight's draft (17th overall) to the Washington Wizards though it's still not known what the Bulls will get in return for the trade. What top free agents. Like, say, LeBron and Bosh? The deal won't be finalized until July 8 because that's when the Wizards will have enough space under the cap to take on Hinrich's contract. In the event the deal with the Wiz falls through, it seems the Bulls already have a back-up suitor for the same deal in the Sacramento Kings. more ›

Hinrich Suspension Adds to Bulls' Roster Woes

Hinrich Suspension Adds to Bulls' Roster Woes

It's been a while since the likes of Bill Russell and Lenny Wilkins had to fill dual roles as player-coaches, but the Bulls just might need Vinny Del Negro to trade in his suits for shorts this week. Kirk Hinrich will be forced to miss Tuesday's game after being suspended one game by the league for making contact with an official after he was ejected from Friday night's game against Miami. more ›

Bulls Trade Rumors

Bulls Trade Rumors

With the NBA trade deadline looming in a couple weeks, the rumors are starting to build as teams look to bolster their roster for the playoffs or adjust their future salary cap commitments ahead of the best free agency class in a very long time (some would say ever). With the Bulls mired in a disappointing season -- although now back to .500 after winning four straight -- and expected to be strong suitors of the likes of LeBron James, Dawyne Wade and Chris Bosh this summer, they are likely to shop some of their higher priced talent to clear cap space. more ›

Bulls Lose Hinrich for Up To Two Weeks

Bulls Lose Hinrich for Up To Two Weeks

In the midst of yet another rough "Circus Trip, " the Bulls got a piece of bad news about Kirk Hinrich and his sprained thumb, an injury suffered during a practice in Portland last week. The guard, who has been the team's sixth man all season, will miss one to two weeks with the injury. A MRI conducted Monday indicated that the injured ligament remains attached to the bone, which is good news in that he'll only miss a limited amount of action. Last year, Hinrich missed 31 games after tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his other thumb. Still, the Bulls are already short handed due to Tyrus Thomas' fractured left forearm and the team was lacking in backcourt depth even before Hinrich's injury. How much can they depend on Jannero Pargo and Lindsey Hunter (the oldest player in the NBA) to contribute in the next few games. Let's just hope the Bulls don't do something rash and try to talk Allen Iverson out of retiring! more ›

NBA Rumors: Boozer to Bulls?

NBA Rumors: Boozer to Bulls?

The Bulls front office seems to have an infatuation for Dukies, having drafted the likes of Elton Brand, Jay Williams, Chris Duhon and Luol Deng in the past few years. And they were supposedly trying to move up in this year's draft in order to land the Blue Devils' Gerald Henderson. more ›

Will Bulls Make Post-Lottery Moves?

Will Bulls Make Post-Lottery Moves?

The Los Angeles Clippers came away the big winner after last night's NBA Draft lottery. It was only the second time in 11 years that the Bulls didn't have a ping pong ball in play, but that doesn't mean they might not profit. According to the Trib's K.C. Johnson: more ›

Bulls Fall to Celtics In OT

Bulls Fall to Celtics In OT

This Bulls-Celtics series continued to add to its claim of most exciting playoff series -- at least early round playoff series -- ever with Tuesday night's thriller. Once again Chicago and Boston needed overtime to determine the winner. On their home court, Boston came away with the 106-104 victory over the Bulls. more ›

Bulls Make Big Trade Ahead of Deadline

The NBA trade deadline is early afternoon on Thursday, and the Bulls were expected to be active. But the Bulls didn't land Amare Stoudemire, nor did they trade Larry Hughes -- yet. In their first deal, the Bulls sent Drew Gooden, Andres Nocioni, Michael Ruffin and Cedric Simmons to the Sacramento Kings in return for Brad Miller and John Salmons. There's a strong consensus that the Bulls were on the big winners of this trade, with the Kings looking to dump salary (the Maloofs lost millions to Bernie Madoff), and the Bulls gaining both help now and cap room down the road. more ›

Bulls Sign Veteran Guard

Bulls Sign Veteran Guard

With their stable of guards thinned by injury and no point guard to back up rookie Derrick Rose, the Bulls signed veteran guard Lindsey Hunter on Thursday. The fifteen year veteran spent most of those years with the Detroit Pistons, who drafted him in with the 10th pick of the 1993 draft. After seven years in Motown, he was traded to the Bucks, Lakers, and Raptors in a span of three seasons, before landing back in Detroit for five more years. more ›

Hinrich Out 12 Weeks

Hinrich Out 12 Weeks

Remember when we wondered whether the Bulls' backcourt depth was a blessing or a curse? We're now relieved that the team has so many guards on their roster who justify playing time, because they've had trouble keeping them healthy. Over the weekend, Kirk Hinrich suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb which will relegate him to street clothes for the next 12 weeks. Capt. Kirk, who had missed just 21 games in his first five seasons, could miss half of this one. more ›

  • Sigh. More violence. Two Streeterville women engaged in a domestic dispute last night and both wound up stabbed, though neither had life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, police in Humboldt Park shot and killed a suspect after a chase; two officers were injured in the incident. The man had a gun on his person but it remains to be seen whether or not he had threatened the officers with it. more ›

Scottie Pippen Wants To Coach the Bulls

Sleep with one eye open, Jim Boylan. Scottie Pippen wants your job. And he's going the media route to getting it, which...probably isn't the classiest or most professional way to do things. more ›

    Enough With the Kobe Talk

You know it's a slow sports week in town when columnists from the big newspapers start sounding like the drunk guy at the corner bar yelling at the TV during the game, certain he could assemble a better team than the one that management has put together. So who is their target? In his column today Mike Downey follows Jay Mariotti in demanding that the Bulls need to trade for Kobe Bryant. There has been... more ›

    Bulls Look Good in Preseason

    Bulls Look Good in Preseason

With the baseball season over for both local teams and the Bears falling flat on their face, what's a Chicago sports fans to do? Chicagoist has turned to the Bulls — even if it's only the preseason. Through three games of their seven-game preseason schedule, we're impressed so far. With last night's 97-76 win over the Washington Wizards, the Bulls stand at 2-1. Records don't mean much during the exhibition slate — teams give extended... more ›

    Yes, Noah

    Yes, Noah

The NBA's annual draft took place Thursday night, and the Bulls added three new faces to the roster. With the ninth pick--which the Bulls had via the Knicks due to the Eddy Curry trade--they selected Joakim Noah from Florida. If nothing else, he certainly made the biggest fashion statement of the night with his seersucker suit, bow tie and crazy hair. Picking Noah was certainly consistent with GM John Paxson's style of going after players... more ›

Bulls Go Down in Game 6

Bulls Go Down in Game 6

Well, the Bulls certainly didn't go down without a fight — not even after falling into a 3-0 series hole. But down they ultimately did go, losing to the Detroit Pistons 95-85 in Game 6 on Thursday night at the United Center. For a half, actually forcing Game 7 seemed like a realistic possibility as the Bulls took a 48-43 lead into the locker room. P.J. Brown had the playoff game of his long career,... more ›

    Bulls Win Again

    Bulls Win Again

We really thought that Tuesday night would be the end of the Bulls' season after the way that the Pistons demolished them in games one and two in Detroit. In those two games, the Bulls looked like some middle school team playing an NBA team. Sure, the Bulls looked pretty good in game four, at home and with Detroit sitting pretty with a 3-0 series lead. But Detroit couldn't possibly get caught sleeping again, could they? more ›

    Bulls Play Like S#!& Again

It was a different night, but the same results for the Bulls in Game 2 in their best-of-seven series against the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons jumped out to another early lead and never looked back, pounding the Bulls once again 108-87. The Bulls were outplayed in every aspect of the game yet again. The Bulls still couldn't shoot; a 34% overall shooting percentage just won't cut it. Kirk Hinrich was 0 for 7 from the... more ›

    Bulls - Pistons Preview

After sweeping the Miami Heat and moving past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since the days of MJ, the Bulls now face off against the Detroit Pistons. The series opens on Saturday in Detroit. The one-seed Pistons also swept their opening-round series, taking down the Orlando Magic. Both teams have had nearly a week to prepare for what we anticipate will be a much tougher series for both teams. Do... more ›

Bulls Beat Heat, Go Up 2-0

Chicagoist is pretty sure we witnessed the birth of a couple of superstars Tuesday night, as Loul Deng and Ben Gordon teamed up to cool off the Heat once again. With their 107-89 victory Tuesday night, the Bulls took a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. more ›

Can Hinrich Keep His Cool Against Heat?

Chicagoist is known to throw things when calls don't go our team's way, too, but it's a little harder to get away with when actually playing in the game. Kirk Hinrich learned that lesson in a course taught by NBA VP of basketball operations, Stu Jackson, who fined the Bulls' guard $25,000 for tossing his mouth guard into the stands during Saturday's playoff game agains the Miami Heat. more ›

    Get Your Own 'Fro

With the Bulls' addition of Ben Wallace and his (sometimes) wild hair, it was only a matter of time before the team announced a partnership deal with an "Official Haircutter." SportClips, who bill themselves as the "perfect place for a guy to get a haircut" because they show sports in their shops and cover the walls in sports memorabilia (and do their stylists really look like more modestly dressed Hooters girls?) will now be able to use the Bulls logo in their marketing as well as promote SportClips at Bulls games. Can anyone say "Barber Chair Spin and Sprint?" more ›

    Bulls Season Preview

The Bulls tricked the Miami Heat and treated their fans to a 42-point blowout of the defending NBA Champs, on the same night the champs hung their banner and received their rings. Is the 108-66 victory a sign of things to come for the Bulls' 2006-2007 season? Maybe... After two straight playoff appearances, but also two straight first-round eliminations, the Bulls are poised to compete for the Eastern Conference title this season. We're not saying... more ›

    Signed, Sealed & Delivered

Chicagoist knows it's old news that Ben Wallace agreed to a deal with the Bulls, but we breathed a huge sign of relief today when Wallace officially signed his deal and appeared with Bulls GM John Paxon and coach Scott Skiles. That combination of always fearing the worst we Chicago sports fans suffer, combined with the nearly two week period between when teams and free agents can begin negotiations and when they can sign deals, had us feeling uneasy. Could Big Ben change him mind? Could he decide to stay with the Pistons? Could something go horribly wrong with the estimated salary cap that wouldn't give the Bulls the cap space they anticipated? All these crazy fears ran through our head, along with trying to determine how to snag tickets to the NBA Finals. more ›
