NBA Rumors: Boozer to Bulls?

The Bulls front office seems to have an infatuation for Dukies, having drafted the likes of Elton Brand, Jay Williams, Chris Duhon and Luol Deng in the past few years. And they were supposedly trying to move up in this year's draft in order to land the Blue Devils' Gerald Henderson.

Will Bulls Make Post-Lottery Moves?

The Los Angeles Clippers came away the big winner after last night's NBA Draft lottery. It was only the second time in 11 years that the Bulls didn't have a ping pong ball in play, but that doesn't mean they might not profit. According to the Trib's K.C. Johnson:

Bulls Fall to Celtics In OT

This Bulls-Celtics series continued to add to its claim of most exciting playoff series -- at least early round playoff series -- ever with Tuesday night's thriller. Once again Chicago and Boston needed overtime to determine the winner. On their home court, Boston came away with the 106-104 victory over the Bulls.

The NBA trade deadline is early afternoon on Thursday, and the Bulls were expected to be active. But the Bulls didn't land Amare Stoudemire, nor did they trade Larry Hughes -- yet. In their first deal, the Bulls sent Drew Gooden, Andres Nocioni, Michael Ruffin and Cedric Simmons to the Sacramento Kings in return for Brad Miller and John Salmons. There's a strong consensus that the Bulls were on the big winners of this trade, with the Kings looking to dump salary (the Maloofs lost millions to Bernie Madoff), and the Bulls gaining both help now and cap room down the road.

With their stable of guards thinned by injury and no point guard to back up rookie Derrick Rose, the Bulls signed veteran guard Lindsey Hunter on Thursday. The fifteen year veteran spent most of those years with the Detroit Pistons, who drafted him in with the 10th pick of the 1993 draft. After seven years in Motown, he was traded to the Bucks, Lakers, and Raptors in a span of three seasons, before landing back in Detroit for five more years.

Remember when we wondered whether the Bulls' backcourt depth was a blessing or a curse? We're now relieved that the team has so many guards on their roster who justify playing time, because they've had trouble keeping them healthy. Over the weekend, Kirk Hinrich suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb which will relegate him to street clothes for the next 12 weeks. Capt. Kirk, who had missed just 21 games in his first five seasons, could miss half of this one.

Cavs Pull Away From Bull

  • Sigh. More violence. Two Streeterville women engaged in a domestic dispute last night and both wound up stabbed, though neither had life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, police in Humboldt Park shot and killed a suspect after a chase; two officers were injured in the incident. The man had a gun on his person but it remains to be seen whether or not he had threatened the officers with it.

  • Sleep with one eye open, Jim Boylan. Scottie Pippen wants your job. And he's going the media route to getting it, which...probably isn't the classiest or most professional way to do things.

You know it's a slow sports week in town when columnists from the big newspapers start sounding like the drunk guy at the corner bar yelling at the TV during the game, certain he could assemble a better team than the one that management has put together. So who is their target? In his column today Mike Downey follows Jay Mariotti in demanding that the Bulls need to trade for Kobe Bryant. There has been...

With the baseball season over for both local teams and the Bears falling flat on their face, what's a Chicago sports fans to do? Chicagoist has turned to the Bulls — even if it's only the preseason. Through three games of their seven-game preseason schedule, we're impressed so far. With last night's 97-76 win over the Washington Wizards, the Bulls stand at 2-1. Records don't mean much during the exhibition slate — teams give extended...

The NBA's annual draft took place Thursday night, and the Bulls added three new faces to the roster. With the ninth pick--which the Bulls had via the Knicks due to the Eddy Curry trade--they selected Joakim Noah from Florida. If nothing else, he certainly made the biggest fashion statement of the night with his seersucker suit, bow tie and crazy hair. Picking Noah was certainly consistent with GM John Paxson's style of going after players...

Well, the Bulls certainly didn't go down without a fight — not even after falling into a 3-0 series hole. But down they ultimately did go, losing to the Detroit Pistons 95-85 in Game 6 on Thursday night at the United Center. For a half, actually forcing Game 7 seemed like a realistic possibility as the Bulls took a 48-43 lead into the locker room. P.J. Brown had the playoff game of his long career,...

We really thought that Tuesday night would be the end of the Bulls' season after the way that the Pistons demolished them in games one and two in Detroit. In those two games, the Bulls looked like some middle school team playing an NBA team. Sure, the Bulls looked pretty good in game four, at home and with Detroit sitting pretty with a 3-0 series lead. But Detroit couldn't possibly get caught sleeping again, could they?

It really looked like the Bulls were going to get themselves back into this series against the Detroit Pistons ... for a half anyway. In the second half, Detroit stormed back to beat the Bulls 81-74.

It was a different night, but the same results for the Bulls in Game 2 in their best-of-seven series against the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons jumped out to another early lead and never looked back, pounding the Bulls once again 108-87. The Bulls were outplayed in every aspect of the game yet again. The Bulls still couldn't shoot; a 34% overall shooting percentage just won't cut it. Kirk Hinrich was 0 for 7 from the...

After sweeping the Miami Heat and moving past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since the days of MJ, the Bulls now face off against the Detroit Pistons. The series opens on Saturday in Detroit. The one-seed Pistons also swept their opening-round series, taking down the Orlando Magic. Both teams have had nearly a week to prepare for what we anticipate will be a much tougher series for both teams. Do...

Chicagoist is pretty sure we witnessed the birth of a couple of superstars Tuesday night, as Loul Deng and Ben Gordon teamed up to cool off the Heat once again. With their 107-89 victory Tuesday night, the Bulls took a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Sun-Times reports that the Tribune Company is going to ditch approximately 250 workers, with about 100 coming from the Chicago Tribune. In honor of National Darfur Week, students at University of Chicago had a "study in" to protest the University's being invested in mutual funds tied to the Sudanese government. A body found near the train tracks in Barrington might have been struck over a month ago. We can never imagine the horror...

Chicagoist is known to throw things when calls don't go our team's way, too, but it's a little harder to get away with when actually playing in the game. Kirk Hinrich learned that lesson in a course taught by NBA VP of basketball operations, Stu Jackson, who fined the Bulls' guard $25,000 for tossing his mouth guard into the stands during Saturday's playoff game agains the Miami Heat.

With the Bulls' addition of Ben Wallace and his (sometimes) wild hair, it was only a matter of time before the team announced a partnership deal with an "Official Haircutter." SportClips, who bill themselves as the "perfect place for a guy to get a haircut" because they show sports in their shops and cover the walls in sports memorabilia (and do their stylists really look like more modestly dressed Hooters girls?) will now be able to use the Bulls logo in their marketing as well as promote SportClips at Bulls games. Can anyone say "Barber Chair Spin and Sprint?"

The Bulls tricked the Miami Heat and treated their fans to a 42-point blowout of the defending NBA Champs, on the same night the champs hung their banner and received their rings. Is the 108-66 victory a sign of things to come for the Bulls' 2006-2007 season? Maybe... After two straight playoff appearances, but also two straight first-round eliminations, the Bulls are poised to compete for the Eastern Conference title this season. We're not saying...

By now, we have come to terms with the fact that the White Sox will not be repeating as World Series champs ... well, because you have to make the playoffs to get to the World Series. And that ain't happening.

Last week, we brought you the great news that Chicago was named the #1 Sports City by The Sporting News. TSN is holding a ceremony prior to Wednesday's White Sox - Yankees game at U.S. Cellular Field to honor our fair city.

Chicagoist knows it's old news that Ben Wallace agreed to a deal with the Bulls, but we breathed a huge sign of relief today when Wallace officially signed his deal and appeared with Bulls GM John Paxon and coach Scott Skiles. That combination of always fearing the worst we Chicago sports fans suffer, combined with the nearly two week period between when teams and free agents can begin negotiations and when they can sign deals, had us feeling uneasy. Could Big Ben change him mind? Could he decide to stay with the Pistons? Could something go horribly wrong with the estimated salary cap that wouldn't give the Bulls the cap space they anticipated? All these crazy fears ran through our head, along with trying to determine how to snag tickets to the NBA Finals.

The Chicago Bulls dramatically upgraded their franchise in terms of toughness over the holiday weekend. First, Benny the Bull was arrested at the Taste of Chicago, after riding a mini-motorcycle without a permit and then throwing a punch at a sheriff's deputy. Barry Anderson, in costume as Benny the Bull, was charged with misdemeanor battery and driving within a parkway.

Seven seeds are supposed to pretty much roll over and play dead when facing a second seed, but the Bulls apparently didn't get that memo.

It's amazing what happens when a team plays some defense! While the Bulls had allowed the Miami Heat to score an average of 113 points in the first game to their own 107, last night saw the Bulls beat the Heat 109-90.

Before the start of the NBA season, Chicagoist actually thought the Bulls would be comparable to last year's surprising 47-35 team. Boy were we wrong! Whereas last year's team regularly scraped and clawed to overcome early defecits and win games they had no business winning, this year's team has been following the opposite script. Monday night's loss to the Utah Jazz saw the Bulls give away the game not once, but twice. They jumped out...

...And on top of that deficit, Kirk Hinrich left the game late in the 3rd with an ankle sprain. Many in attendance fled the United Center, but those who stayed got quite a show. The Bulls rallied to tie the game, then won109-105 against the Charlotte Bobcats in overtime!
