Derrick Rose will start in the 2012 All-Star Game, which will be held February 26.
All-Star Roster Comes Up Rose-y
Rose, Deng Lift Bulls in Season Opener
The Bulls returned to the NBA's Christmas schedule for the first time since the Jordan era courtesy of their surprising run last season and the above the rim game of reigning MVP and new $94 million man Derrick Rose and gave fans a reason to cheer with a win against the Lakers.
Morning Box Score: Bulls Fall Short in LA
Lakers 98, Bulls 91: Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson all showed why they're the foundation of this Bulls team, but it wasn't enough as they fell to the defending NBA champs at the Staples Center. Rose led all scorers with 30, Noah added 19 points and 13 rebounds and Gibson 16 points and 12 boards, but Luol Deng reverted to his one-quarter All-Star status and the Lakers' bench outscored their Bulls counterparts 39-10, shooting 50 percent to the Bulls' 16.6 percent in the process.
Oprah's Olympic-Sized Season Premiere
Chicagoist headed to the taping of Oprah's Olympic-themed season premiere this morning, along with thousands of other Oprahphiles. The big O welcomed 153 Olympians from Team USA, which was quite a spectacle, but she only interviewed the usual suspects: Michael Phelps (who was then joined briefly by Cullen Jones, Jason Lezak and Garrett Weber-Gale), Shawn Johnson and Nastia Liukin (who talked about reading , ugh), the men's basketball team (only Kobe Bryant and Jason Kidd said anything—and I don't think Lebron James was there), the men's volleyball team, Dara Torres, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, and three members of the women's 4x400 relay (Sanya Richards did most of the talking). And then American Idol winner David Cook sang, which...was weird.
Pau! Bulls Poked in Face
Bulls GM John Paxson is having about as much luck these days as fellow Jerry Reinsdorf employee Kenny Williams. While the Sox have been unable to add a marquee center fielder to their roster, the Bulls keep keep coming up short when trying to land a player who can be the centerpiece of their franchise.
Half Way To Where?
With Wednesday night's win over the Indiana Pacers, the Bulls reached the half way point in their season on a high. Not only did they win the game, but they did so without Luol Deng, Chris Duhon and Ben Gordon, who are all currently injured.
Is Kobe Still Available?
Should Chicagoist be worried that the Bulls have opened their season 0-4 after dropping Tuesday night's game to the L.A. Clippers 97-91? Having watched three of their first four in their entirety, we can certainly say that the Bulls look nothing like a team who we'd predict to win 55 games and finish atop the Eastern Conference. Not only have they yet to enter the win column, but they're not even losing to elite teams....
Enough With the Kobe Talk
You know it's a slow sports week in town when columnists from the big newspapers start sounding like the drunk guy at the corner bar yelling at the TV during the game, certain he could assemble a better team than the one that management has put together. So who is their target? In his column today Mike Downey follows Jay Mariotti in demanding that the Bulls need to trade for Kobe Bryant. There has been...
Kobe's Beef Persists, Fuels Bulls Rumors
Since we first discussed Kobe Bryant's unhappiness with the L.A. Lakers and the possibility that he could seek a trade to the Bulls, the rumors have persisted as his relationship with the Lakers continues to deteriorate.
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
Happy Father's Day! For those of you who have dads, are dads, or know dads, this one's for you, from all of us at the Gothamist network." It was a week of bizarre, embarassing headlines at DCist. The trial of the local administrative law judge who sued his cleaners for $54 million over a pair of missing pants left everyone shaking their heads. Then the capital city was nearly brought to its knees, twice, by...
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
Seattlest has a talk with the photographer from last week's "Segway Mom" and then experiences some dissension in the ranks over the question of wine vs. beer. It's not West Side Story, but about as close as they'll get. They're also still waiting on some inbox relief after a spammer is arrested. As Chicagoist counts down the days to its third anniversary party, they found all-organic pizza to be underwhelming amidst the hoopla, tried...
The Bulls Won't Be Landing Kobe Anytime Soon
The sports media has been abuzz since ESPN's Ric Bucher reported that L.A. Laker guard Kobe Bryant suggested during an interview that he wanted to be traded if the Lakers didn't lure former GM Jerry West back to the organization. A day later, Kobe refuted that assertion, but the rumor mills continue to swirl about whether the Lakers' prima donna wants out.
We Hear That's Why MJ Did It, Too
We know he's just a rookie. And we know that he only played one year of college ball, so he's really just hardly out of high school. But we still thought that Tyrus Thomas was more mature than he proved on Monday, when he told the Tribune repeatedly that he was participating in the Slam Dunk Contest during the NBA All Star Weekend festivities for the prize money.
Welcome Home
The Bulls welcome the Orlando Magic to the United Center tonight, their first home game in over two weeks. They concluded their annual "Circus Trip" on Sunday, when they beat the Houston Rockets 94-89. That win pulled the Bulls record on the West Coast swing to an even 3-3.
Can You Keep a Secret?
Bulls management sure can! Only after the team was eliminated from the Kobe Bryant sweepstakes on Monday did word get out that the Bulls were serious contenders.
