We knew it. Korean food is on the rise in Chicago. Despite a substantial fan base, Chicago is not exactly a mecca for Korean food. The Korean Government and its tourism organizations are out to change that. We attended a dinner sponsored by the Korean Consulate General held at Rolling Meadow’s Woo Lae Oak. A representative from the Consulate lamented the “lack of ‘fancy’ Korean restaurants in Chicago.” We’re pretty happy with any Korean food we can get our hands on in the city, but a more refined, upscale Korean restaurant? Yes please.

Del Seoul Wins Chicago’s Soul
Crisp, a Korean-style (twice fried) chicken wing hut, which opened its doors in 2008, began to change that by offering up a Korean twist on a classic American favorite. Then a new kid rolled into town, with flashy signs and a hip, trendy take on Korean classics. The new kid goes by the name Del Seoul, and it’s quickly winning over Chicagoan’s souls.
Korean Food: Where Do You Get Your Fix?
Korean food has gained popularity and recognition in the past ten years or so. We, biased though we are, love it. And we are always pleased when our non-Korean friends have their first taste of bulgogi and are hooked. Or even when they know that they'd like their gochujang on the side of their dolsot bibimbap - with egg, please. We snapped some pictures of Korean food prepared by Mom herself and thought we'd ask you (in case your Mom isn't kick ass Korean) where you go to get your fix of bulgogi, of bibimbap... and all other things Korean.
The Food of Korean Fest
The shaved ice and fruit dessert known as bing soo tastes even better when the temperature is in the low 90s. We saved the bing soo for last yesterday while at the Chicago Korean Festival. Held on Bryn Mawr between Kedzie and Kimball, the festival seems to grow larger every year. We decided to hit it and get out early before the heat really started scorching attendees; the heat also swayed us from eating kim chi. Here are some shots of some of the food dishes available for purchase, ending with a beautiful bing soo.
