We've already spewed forth our admiration for Chicago new-wave-punk-garage-rock quartet Mr. Russia, but we just wanted to alert you to their CD release show for their debut album -- Teething -- at Metro this Friday. To whet everyone's appetite in advance of the big day the group has cobbled together a video for lead single "Skipping Hearts."
Life During Wartime is throwing an Inaug-u-rave at Hideout tomorrow, but don't let the title of the event scare you with images of spandex-clad hipsters with glowsticks since it features some of the best rock and/or roll we've heard in a while. Headliner Lasers and fast and Shit play heavy hooky borderline punk-metal with a DIY light show that has to be seen to be believed. These guys are so hardcore they build most of their musical equipment from common household objects, bent nails, and duct tape.
Often there is a thin line between a conceit being inspired or shtick. In the case of Chicago's Lasers And Fast And Shit that conceit is that they build much of their music gear and light show from scratch, often incorporating common household objects or toys. And in their hands, this conceit proves inspired when included in the context of their music and live presentation.
