We found out about local artist Jeff Carter's IKEA hacking in October. Then, we wrote about his Gropius building models in response to the city's controversial decision to demolish the south side "Bauhaus campus." Then, in early February, three of Carter's works went up in Columbia's 310 Contemporary gallery on Michigan Ave.

For the Kids: Legoland Discovery Center MiniMaster Builder Contest
If we were only 30 years younger, we'd be all over this contest by the Legoland Discovery Center, which is looking for its first MiniMaster Builder.
Monday Morning Diversion: Rahm Emanuel Lego Portrait
New media artist Dubi Kaufmann makes his artistic contribution to chronicling the Countdown to Rahmageddon with this time-lapse video of a Rahm Emanuel portrait he constructed, using Legos.
Monday Afternoon Diversion
Did you miss the USA-England World Cup match from this weekend? Don't worry because you can catch a recap in LEGO form right here, including the now famous/infamous (depending on which side you're on) Hand of Clod.
Friday Afternoon Diversion
Sure, we've created our own printer out of LEGOs before. Who hasn't?
Extra, Extra
- To absolutely no one's surprise, when Mayor Daley addressed that controversial Olympic guarantee agreement at a press conference today, he only confused everyone more than they were before.
- A 17-year-old was arrested this afternoon in connection with the shooting death of nine-year-old Chastity Turner.
- For the third time, Juan Rivera has been sentenced to life in jail for the 1992 murder of Holly Staker.
LEGO Goes City of Big Shoulders
Did you enjoy our pics from this weekend's Frank Lloyd Wright tour? Well, now there may be a LEGO set just for you. Our pals at Gapers Block point out that LEGO plans on soon releasing a new line of sets featuring famous architectural wonders, such as the Sears Tower (right). GB also directs us to PrairieMod, who has a preview of a pair of Frank Lloyd Wright sets soon to be released. According to a press release posted on PrairieMod:
The Inauguration In Legos
We knew we were on to something with our Lego theme. "Lego master craftsmen" are finishing up a recreation of Obama's motorcade and swearing in. The model is located in Carlsbad, California, so it's not easy to get to but it's...pretty damn impressive, actually.
Looptopia Returns For Another Go-Round
The Dusk til Dawn Cultural and Artistic Celebration that is Looptopia is upon us once again. Even though last year was sort of a let down, there was still plenty of cool stuff that happened and we've got hopes this year will be better, especially after officials said they'd scale things down and be better prepared for the crowd. Bank of America or no Bank of America, the show must go on. For a full schedule, click here or pick up one of their comprehensive brochures at various business establishments around the Loop. We're keeping an eye on the the weather and hoping it doesn't throw too big of a wrench into plans.
