Is this the year the Bulls finally reclaim their place among the NBA's elite? For the past few seasons, the Bulls have been full of potential but inconsistent on fulfilling that promise on the court. One of these years, they'll finally make that jump. When we last saw the Bulls playing meaningful games, it was in an epic seven-game series (plus seven OT periods) with the Boston Celtics in the opening round of the playoffs. Taking the defending NBA champs and second-seeded Celts the full distance gave Bulls fans a lot to look forward to for this season. But is the optimism justified just yet?

While the Bulls now seem poised to clinch a playoff berth, they'll have to plan on taking on the rest of the Eastern Conference without one of their best. Luol Deng, who has missed the past five weeks with a stress fracture in his right tibia is done for the regular season and at least the first round of the playoffs. Should the Bulls -- likely looking at a seventh or eighth seed -- move on to the second round, there's a very slight chance he'd be ready to return, but the odds of both those things happening are long. The Bulls don't want to rush the fifth-year forward in order to avoid surgery, which would prolong Deng's recovery. Coach Vinny del Negro told the press, "It's just best for Luol. He has been trying to come back, but he's having setbacks here and there. It's just the smart thing to do right now. We'll continue to re-evaluate it. But right now, we'll let him get some rest and move forward." [Tribune]
With the Bulls off on their second extended road trip of the season -- this time exiled by Disney on Ice -- their season is on the brink. At seven games below .500 and sporting a 5-17 road record, the team that's already outside looking in with regards to the playoffs might just be positioned for another high lottery pick come June.
Ben Gordon thinks he's a superstar. Ben Gordon wants superstar money. Only problem is that the rest of the NBA doesn't agree with his own inflated self worth.
We’re somewhat hesitant to mention it given the Bulls' track record with “done deals" this summer, but the team and Luol Deng have agreed on a six-year, $71 million contract that will be officially announced this morning at a press conference at the Berto Center. With incentives, the deal can reach upwards of $80 million.
So this is what happens when two teams, out of playoff contention and just trying to run out the season, meet in the week's final season?
The NBA finalized the All-Star game rosters, announcing the reserves on Thursday. It should come as no surprise that the Bulls will not represented. Again.
With Wednesday night's win over the Indiana Pacers, the Bulls reached the half way point in their season on a high. Not only did they win the game, but they did so without Luol Deng, Chris Duhon and Ben Gordon, who are all currently injured.
Adam Burish scored his first goal (pictured), but the Blackhawks still lost to the Sharks yesterday, ending both the Blackhawks' four-game winning streak and the Sharks' four-game losing streak. [AP]
It's been quite a week for Bulls rookie Joakim Noah. After a confrontation with Bulls assistant coach Ron Adams, Noah was suspended for a game. Then his teammates voted to suspend him an additional game.
Sleep with one eye open, Jim Boylan. Scottie Pippen wants your job. And he's going the media route to getting it, which...probably isn't the classiest or most professional way to do things.
It only took them five games into the season, but the Bulls finally won a game on Thursday night. After dropping their first four to mediocre teams, they handed the previously undefeated Detroit Pistons their first loss of the season. Nice! Second-year player and new starting power forward Tyrus Thomas had his second monster game of the season, leading the team with 19 points while grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds. Luol Deng added 17 points,...
With the baseball season over for both local teams and the Bears falling flat on their face, what's a Chicago sports fans to do? Chicagoist has turned to the Bulls — even if it's only the preseason. Through three games of their seven-game preseason schedule, we're impressed so far. With last night's 97-76 win over the Washington Wizards, the Bulls stand at 2-1. Records don't mean much during the exhibition slate — teams give extended...
With the draft behind him, Bulls GM John Paxson hoped to fill the Bulls' need for a low-post scorer via trade or free agency. Without wanting to break up the team's young core, and without much cap room, Paxson didn't have a lot of options as the free agency period began last Wednesday.
The NBA's annual draft took place Thursday night, and the Bulls added three new faces to the roster. With the ninth pick--which the Bulls had via the Knicks due to the Eddy Curry trade--they selected Joakim Noah from Florida. If nothing else, he certainly made the biggest fashion statement of the night with his seersucker suit, bow tie and crazy hair. Picking Noah was certainly consistent with GM John Paxson's style of going after players...
Maybe we got a bit ahead of ourselves when we dreamed of Greg Oden trading in the red jersey of Ohio St. for a red Bulls uni, on account of the Bulls holding the right to swap picks with the New York Knicks in this year's draft as part of the Eddy Curry trade. But you saw how bad the Knicks were in '06, right? And then they added Isiah Thomas to their bench as...
Well, the Bulls certainly didn't go down without a fight — not even after falling into a 3-0 series hole. But down they ultimately did go, losing to the Detroit Pistons 95-85 in Game 6 on Thursday night at the United Center. For a half, actually forcing Game 7 seemed like a realistic possibility as the Bulls took a 48-43 lead into the locker room. P.J. Brown had the playoff game of his long career,...
We really thought that Tuesday night would be the end of the Bulls' season after the way that the Pistons demolished them in games one and two in Detroit. In those two games, the Bulls looked like some middle school team playing an NBA team. Sure, the Bulls looked pretty good in game four, at home and with Detroit sitting pretty with a 3-0 series lead. But Detroit couldn't possibly get caught sleeping again, could they?
It was a different night, but the same results for the Bulls in Game 2 in their best-of-seven series against the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons jumped out to another early lead and never looked back, pounding the Bulls once again 108-87. The Bulls were outplayed in every aspect of the game yet again. The Bulls still couldn't shoot; a 34% overall shooting percentage just won't cut it. Kirk Hinrich was 0 for 7 from the...
After sweeping the Miami Heat and moving past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since the days of MJ, the Bulls now face off against the Detroit Pistons. The series opens on Saturday in Detroit. The one-seed Pistons also swept their opening-round series, taking down the Orlando Magic. Both teams have had nearly a week to prepare for what we anticipate will be a much tougher series for both teams. Do...
The Bulls' Luol Deng may be soft spoken, but that doesn't mean his peers in the NBA haven't taken notice -- and we're not just referring to his play against the Heat last week. They also recognize his sportsmanship, selecting him for the NBA's award given to "the player who best exemplifies ethical behavior, fair play and integrity on the court."

Chicagoist was pretty sure the Bulls could win their opening-round series against the Miami Heat — ESPN "experts" be damned. But even we didn't think the Bulls could actually sweep Miami.
The Chicago Bulls dramatically upgraded their franchise in terms of toughness over the holiday weekend. First, Benny the Bull was arrested at the Taste of Chicago, after riding a mini-motorcycle without a permit and then throwing a punch at a sheriff's deputy. Barry Anderson, in costume as Benny the Bull, was charged with misdemeanor battery and driving within a parkway.
Tonight, the Bulls open their 2005-2006 campaign, and for the first time since MJ left town there are fan expectations that the season will end with a playoff run. Last season, the young Bulls surprised many when they finished the season 47-35 -- especially after an 0-9 start. While they exited the playoffs in the first round, there was a great deal of hope that they'd build upon that and become a contender in the...
Following last night's victory over the Charlotte Bobcats, the Bulls completed the first half of their season with a 22-19 record. Yeah, that's right... 3 games over .500! Of course, that means they've beena sizzling 22-10 since their 0-9 start.
The Bulls tip off against the New Jersey Nets tonight at the United Center. Starting the opener will be: Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich at guards, Andres Nocioni and Othella Harrington at forward and Tyson Chandler in the middle. Eddie Curry won't be in the lineup because he'll be serving the first of his two game suspension for his part in a fight against Washington during the pre-season. This lineup is likely to be fluid, however. Curry will displace Harrington once his suspension is up, shifting Chandler to forward. And if Gordon's poor pre-season play continues, look for Luol Deng to move into the starting lineup. So any way you look at it, expect two rookies in the starting lineup.
...on the way out of town, Eddie Robinson! On the eve of NBA season, as teams submit their rosters to the NBA prior to this week's season openers the Bulls and Robinson agreed to terms on a buyout.
The Bulls unveil their 2004-2005 lineup tonight when they take on the Boston Celtics in Manchester, N.H. in their first pre-season game. Following a week of training camp, Bulls rookies Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, Andres Nocioni and Chris Duhon will get their first chance to play against NBA competition. Bulls also have lots of newcomers in camp this season -- Othella Harrington, Frank Williams and Cezary Trybanski came from the Knicks as part of the...
Last night began a week of huge changes throughout the NBA. The party started with the Charlotte Bobcats' expansion draft. Charlotte selected 19 players from among those left unprotected by other teams.
