We've been sort of "meh" about the news of Roundy's Supermarkets coming to town, mainly because, rather than set up stores in neighborhoods that need them, the enormogrocer instead decided to set up shop in a neighborhood that wasn't exactly clamoring for another grocer.

You may not have to like the change from Marshall Field's to Macy's - and we know that most of you don't - but they are making good on one promise made during all the hullabaloo after that announcement was made. Federated Department Stores Inc., Macy's parent company, is thisclose to bringing production of Frango mints back to Chicago, fulfilling one of many caveats Federated made to soften the blow of re-naming Marshall Field's Macy's.

Now this is just wrong.

About a month ago we heard that Federated is moving the production of Frango mints back to Chicago. Now here's a little more good news for one of our favorite chocolates: They're gonna need to make a lot of them because come fall Frango is going to be sold in all Macy's stores nationwide. We're thinking that this makes Frango a little less exclusive, but if they're being sold at a lot more stores, then they'll need more chocolates to supply the stores, which seems like it would mean more jobs for Chicagoans when production moves here? Are we right?

Chicagoist calls it the "'Super Size Me' fallout"- fast food and restaurant chains scrambling to provide healthy alternatives to the greasy, fattening, in some cases tasty food they were offering. Or maybe this just strikes a chord with us because breakfast this morning consisted of two chili dogs and a hot toddy. Either way, the Eatery Formerly Known As Pizzeria Uno has taken steps to offering alternatives to the deep dish pizza that made the chain famous. It's part of a ten-year makeover that, when completed, will make the restaurants indistinguishable from Applebee's, TGI Friday's, Houston's, and Bennigan's aside from the name.

Have you ever entertained out-of-towners asking where to find the best hot dog in the city? Or deep-dish pizza? Should they go to Chinatown or Albany Park for good Asian-style barbecue? What spice houses sell real saffron? Is your short-term health affected by eating at a Harold's Chiucken Shack?

This constant overcast gray and slightly nippy air makes for perfect Midwestern eating weather. Hot on the heels of autumn arriving is a slew of food news guaranteed to pack fifteen pounds on you in all the wrong places:

In case some readers think that we fine folks at Chicagoist have been going overboard with the Macy Field's coverage the past two days, for your perusal today here is a gaggle of news from Hamburger U that has nothing to do with the nutritional quality of its food or its CEO suddenly dropping dead: - Helping those affected by Hurricane Katrina will take years. The possibility of Rita hitting the Gulf Coast would...
