Bears Beat Jets

Bears Beat Jets

While the game was reminiscent of last year's team, the Bears won yet again on Sunday by beating the Jets 10-0 at Giants Stadium. The defense was in top form, creating key turnovers and holding the Jets when it looked like they were close to scoring. Brian Urlacher intercepted the ball in the end zone when the Jets looked poised to open the scoring. The teams went into the intermission tied at 0-0. Perhaps the... more ›

Giant Killers

Giant Killers

Chicagoist was amazed that, as quickly as the national sports media jumped on the Bears bandwagon, they leapt off even faster following the Bears' loss to Miami last week. Maybe they'll realize those leaps were premature after the Bears defeated the New York Giants 38-20 on national TV Sunday night. For the first 28 minutes of the game, it certainly didn't look like the Bears would win. The Giants dominated the game and held a... more ›

First Grossman Injury Opportunity of the Year

First Grossman Injury Opportunity of the Year

The Bears open up their preseason schedule tonight, as they play the 49ers in San Francisco. The preseason doesn't mean much in terms of how a team will play once the games count, but it'll be interesting to watch some new additions and some guys battling for starting jobs. The biggest questions seems to center around the number two wide receiver. Will Mark Bradley be the same reciever we got glimpses of before his injury... more ›

Bears Alone in First

Bears Alone in First

The Bears and Detroit Lions faced off yesterday in Detroit with first place in the NFC North at stake. While they couldn't finish the job in regulation, the Bears eventually beat the Lions -- winning 19-13 when Peanut Tillman ran an interception back for a TD in overtime. After Tillman picked off Lion QB Jeff Garcia, safety Mike Brown pointed him towards the end zone. Just in case he didn't know where it was,... more ›

Late Collapse Dooms Bears

Late Collapse Dooms Bears

There's been very little Chicago Bears football that could be called pretty this season, but they've sometimes shown just enough to make us think they might be able to win the weak NFC North. They entered Sunday's games in first place with a 1-2 record, and for a while it looked like they'd even up their record. However, a low scoring affair between two offensively inept teams changed in the final three minutes and the... more ›

Big Day for Bears Rookies

Big Day for Bears Rookies

Early in the day, Bears coach Lovie Smith called rookie QB Kyle Orton into his office to inform him he was being named the starting QB. Orton has played very well throughout the preseason while former Grossman back-up Chad Hutchinson has not. Through their first 4 preseason games, Orton had a QB Rating of 92.3 while Hutchinson's was a horrific 23.1, including a 0.0 in Friday night's game against Buffalo. With Hutchinson bumped all the way down to 4th on the current depth chart behind Jeff Blake and Kurt Kittner, we may have seen the last of Hutchinson in a Bears uniform. Chicagoist sure is glad that Lovie is a bit more responsive to performance-based personnel changes than a certain baseball manager is. Lovie recognized that somebody wasn't doing the job and he wasted little time in handing over the reigns to somebody more capable. more ›

Bears Draft Grade: B

Bears Draft Grade: B

Wow, it was a busy weekend here in the Chicagoist sports offices! Bears draft, Bulls playoffs, Sox winning streak... First up this weekend was the NFL Draft. Wanting to bring the Chicagoist readers a first hand account, we set an alarm on a Saturday to be up for the big day. Around 12:30pm, moments after their 15 minute clock had expired, the Bears selected Texas running back Cedric Benson with the 4th pick. This was... more ›
