The rumors have been stewing for months. Last night the Cubs finally pulled the trigger and traded Carlos Zambrano's talents, his mercurial temper and his me-first attitude to South Beach, and they'll be eating a major portion of the $18 million owed Zambrano in the process.
Big Z Is Miami's Problem Now
Danks Makes Bank With New Deal
While Derrick Rose's five-year, $94 million contract extension was the largest chunk of change committed to by Jerry Reinsdorf, the Bulls and White Sox chairman also opened up the purse strings to keep another of his employees under contract for the next half decade.
Bye-Bye: Buehrle Signs with Marlins
Buehrle signed a four-year, $58 million deal, reuniting him with Ozzie Guillen and making our chances of sitting alone at U.S. Cellular Field all season closer to reality.
Call it a Rebuild: White Sox Trade Santos, Shop Danks
If the hiring of Robin Ventura or offering arbitration to Mark Buehrle weren't big enough signs for White Sox fans that the team is in a rebuilding mode, today's trade of Sergio Santos to Toronto for minor league prospect Nestor Molina should hammer home the obvious to even the most deluded fan of the Pale Hose.
Buehrle: No Hometown Discount for Sox
In addition to visiting Ozzie Guillen and the Marlins earlier this week, as many as 10 teams are interested in the services of the durable, Gold Glove-winning southpaw.
Buehrle Visits Marlins
Perhaps Buehrle just wanted a couple days away from the cold and rain in the Midwest on somebody else's dime.
Buehrle Wins Third Straight Gold Glove
Buehrle committed only one error last season and picked off six runners. Since 2001 Buehrle leads all major league pitchers with 85 pickoffs.

Morning Box Score: Typical Buehrle in KC, Cubs Stun Phillies
Aramis Ramirez said he would veto any trade as a five-and-ten player, then increased his trade value with his 17th home run of the season.
Afternoon Box Score: Twin Cities Liturgy
As White Sox fans, we're at the point where we feel bringing white flags of surrender may be a better option than having to watch a pitching gem by Mark Buehrle get wasted like this.
Morning Box Score: Dunn Homers, Cubs Win in Extras
The Cubs bullpen was on Lockdown following a rain delay last night and Adam Dunn resurfaced at the Cell.
Morning Box Score: Sox Strand Runners vs. Blue Jays

Baseball Box Score: Buehrle Wins No. 150, Russell Flames Out in LA
It was a tale of two pitchers for the White Sox and Cubs last night.
Morning Box Score: Sox Lose, Ozzie Ejected, Tweets
The scouting report on Mark Buehrle is that he tends to have one bad inning per game. Last night, that was the first inning as Buehrle gave up a three-run home run to Robinson Cano, which was all the Yankees needed in a 3-1 win over the White Sox. Buehrle settled down and pitched well the rest of the way, going seven innings, but Cano's home run proved to be a major hole for the struggling Sox' lineup to dig themselves out, which they couldn't against a resurgent Bartolo Colon. Ozzie Guillen provided more fireworks. The Sox skipper was ejected in the first inning and tweeted about it immediately afterward. The White Sox and Yankees close out their series tonight (6:05 p.m., WSCR-AM, CSN)
Baseball Box Score: Cubs and Sox Fail to Prevail
Trouble arose on the North and South Sides of Chicago as neither of our beloved teams could pull out a win. The Cubs suffered a hard-to-watch 12-2 loss to the Dodgers while the White Sox one again got our hopes up with a multi home-run game but fell in Detroit 9-3.
Morning Box Score: Cubs Edge Astros, Bad Fielding Mars White Sox
With a little bit of help from bad fielding, Matt Thornton is now 0-for-3 in save situations for the White Sox. In Houston, Carlos Marmol continued to be an alpha closer.
Afternoon Box Score: Sox Go Extras to Beat Royals
We thought this game was going to continue into the night, but the White Sox scored three times in the their half of the 12th inning to defeat the Kansas City Royals 10-7. Carlos Quentin continued to swing a hot bat, with home run and three RBI. Ramon Castro also homered for the Sox. But the bullpen issues need to be addressed. Matt Thornton was spotted a one-run lead in the ninth and blew a save opportunity, and Will Ohman pronounced "omen" as in, "this is a bad omen that Ohman is in the game" also gave up an (unearned) run. Chris Sale picked up the win with two innings of relief work. The White Sox now return to U.S. Cellular Field for their home opener against Tampa.
Buehrle Snags Gold Glove
He locked up this award on Opening Day with his amazing between-the-legs defensive play, but today Mark Buehrle officially won his second consecutive Gold Glove award as the top defensive pitcher in the American League. The Sox southpaw led the majors by picking off 11 runners in 2010 and didn't commit a single error on the mound. In 33 starts, Buehrle also accumulated a 13-13 record and a 4.28 record.
Top 9 Of '09: Just Missing The Cut
A lot happened in 2009 and we've had a grand old time running down our top stories of the year. But what happened in 2009 that caught our attention but didn't quite make the cut for our top stories list? In no particular order:
CSN To Replay Buehrle's Perfect Game
While Sox fans didn't get another World Series trophy to polish and use to incur the jealousy of Cubs fans, one thing they can be thankful for is having one of the season's most memorable moments: Mark Buehrle's perfect game. (Aside: a moment within that moment has to be Wise's a-MAY-zing catch to maintain the perfect game.) And if you missed it the first time around, CSN is going to give you a chance to see it. On Thanksgiving night, after you've stuffed yourself with turkey, potatoes, and who knows what else, you can sit down and watch the replay of Buehrle's perfecto in its entirety, complete with post-game press conference. It'll all start at 7:00 p.m. on CSN. And, Cubs fans, you're not left out either. Early in the day - 12:30 p.m. - CSN will also replay the Cubs-Indians game from this season that featured a Cubs rally from a 7-0 deficit.
Buehrle's Golden Season
Maybe the entire season didn't quite play out how ace Mark Buehrle and the Chicago White Sox had wanted, but it wasn't too shabby for Buehrle. He finished the season with 33 starts, a 13-10 record with a 3.84 ERA, and one complete game. Of course, that one complete game was kind of a big deal: the Sox first perfect game since 1922. And now Buehrle has some nice hardware to add to his accomplishments, being awarded this year's A.L. Gold Glove for the pitcher position. He's the Sox first Gold Glover since Robin Ventura got one in 1998. While making only one error, Buehrle had 41 assists, good enough for a .982 fielding percentage.
Baseball Postmortem: Waiting Until Next Year On Both Sides of Town
Last season, both our baseball teams reached the playoffs. This time around, both the Cubs and White Sox cleaned out their lockers. This was not unexpected for the Sox, but many truly thought this was going to be the Cubs' year. And yet fans on both sides of town are left to "wait until next year."
Buehrle Sets MLB Record
As an encore to last Thursday's perfect game, Mark Buehrle remained unhittable well into Tuesday night's game against the Minnesota Twins. In the process, Buehrle set the MLB record for most consecutive batters retired. By taking another perfect game into the sixth inning, Buehrle ended up retiring 45 consecutive batters without one reaching base, going back to his July 18 start against Baltimore.
Buehrle Does Letterman's Top Ten List
After garnering national attention for his recent perfect game, the White Sox's Mark Buehrle was invited to participate in David Letterman's famous "Top Ten" list on Monday's show. Taped from the Metrodome in Minneapolis, the Sox ace was assisted by teammates Josh Fields and Dewayne Wise -- just like during Thursday's gem. For those who missed his appearance on late night TV, check out the video below and the full list after the jump.
