DOWNLOAD: The Hood Internet

The Hood Internet -- the DJ duo of STV SLV and ABX -- has come a long way since they first started to drop their inde / hip-hop mash-ups, and even further since they played their first live show at an event put together by a certain local website. (O.K., we admit it, we're a little proud of the fact that we were on-board with the boys back before they started their jet-set lifestyle and became a household name in the music blogosphere. Sue us.)

Or maybe ever. Seriously. This magical video - produced by Ricardo Autobahn - utilizes sound clips from some of our favorite tv shows and movies and it's A. MAY. ZING. If you're feeling frisky, you can download an mp3 of the tune here. [via our former leader Margaret now at EW PopWatch]

A mash-up of Rep. Wilson's "YOU LIE!" moment during President Obama's speech was bound to happen. At least it was as awesome as this. It's all we could ask for on a Friday afternoon. [via]

It's Monday so maybe that's why we're so captivated by this mash-up, created by Pogo. If you're as entranced as we are, you can download the MP3 here. [via]

Earlier today, we honored the anniversary of D-Day. This time around, though, we've gone back to the more light-hearted stuff. Witness this brilliant mash-up.

Alash, masters of Tuvan throat singing and traditional instruments, will perform Wednesday at the University of Chicago's International House (1414 E. 59th) as part of its Global Voices Performing Arts Series.

Earlier this week, we brought you the awesome The Mai Shi remix of actor Christian Bale's recent on-set tantrum. Also making the rounds on YouTube lately has been the famed "David After Dentist" video of a kid totally blasted out of his mind on nitrous after a rousing visit to the...well...dentist. In the age of mash-ups, it was only a matter of time before the two became one. As it was written, so let it be done. Warning: language very NSFW, so use the earphones in the office.

Things are getting punchy here at the Chicagoist office as I keep the staff chained to their desks, churning out posts before I turn them loose for the holidays. Much like some of you, I'm sure. So we can turn to one of the things we're thankful for, the wily interwebs, which provide us with so much entertainment. Like this video which mixes Lil John with the Nickelodeon show LazyTown. Though we must warn you, since it's Lil John, the language is definitely NSFW so if you're still at the office, use the headphones. Radiohead Shmaediohead. If there’s one act we’re pumped to see at Lollapalooza this year, it’s the sweatfest dance party stylings of Pittsburgh mash-up artist Gregg “Girl Talk” Gillis. Riding high on the recent release of Feed the Animals, Girl Talk takes the stage in Grant Park on Sunday for a live sample-based set certain to spark a raucous party and rip the festival a new one. Unlike the Debbie Downers crying copyright lawsuit, we see a bright future for this mash-up maven, who has single-handedly elevated our standards of what it means to have a good time at a show. In anticipation of the Lolla madness, we rapped a little with Gillis over email to get some insight into what it’s like to be the ringmaster at the center of the Girl Talk circus.

How appropriate, the day that Chicago's supreme mash-up duo has a record release party is the same day Gregg Gillis decided to drop the new Girl Talk album, Feed The Animals. For free. (Or pay what you can.) It's largely the same set of tunes he used to whip the crowd into a frenzy at last year's Pitchfork Music Festival, so there are no real surprises, but it is a supremely solid piece of work. Our personal favorite "what the heck?!" sample moment occurs early on when Aphex Twin pops up in "Shut The Club Down."
