Ghostbusters 3: Not Filming in Chicago

Ghostbusters 3: Not Filming in Chicago

Recently we saw some reports the Ghostbusters sequel that has been in the works for the past couple of years was finally starting to gear up. A "fine-tuned" script was handed over to Dan Ackroyd (the prime mover in the Ghostbusters re-animation universe), filming was to begin next year and Sony is putting out casting calls in L.A. and... Chicago? On Location Vacation was reporting that they were casting in Chicago because filming was to take place here. more ›

"Ocean's Thirteen" Coming to Chicago, Brangelina Sightings Expected

Chicagoist woke up this morning and thought to ourself, "If only we could think of something, anything, to do with this extra $500 in our pocket. Something glamorous, and possibly involving a Brangelina sighting." And then we read the Sun-Times, and all of our questions were answered. Ocean's Thirteen will have its premiere in Chicago at the AMC River East 21 on June 7, followed by a $500-a-head gala at the soon-to-be-opened Room 21. What... more ›

Oscar Nominations 2006: Connecting the Dots

Oscar Nominations 2006: Connecting the Dots

Oscar nominations are out, and for the second year in a row, there were few surprises save for one notable exception. Confounding the experts and flying in the face of several critics’ awards, Dreamgirls did not pick up nominations for either best picture or best director. The film was a victim of an underdog victory by Clint Eastwood’s film Letters from Iwo Jima. It may also have been a pre-emptive strike on the kind of... more ›

Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse

San Francisco is proud host of a new reality show called "How to Get the Guy" that's unfortunately not a descendant of Will and Grace, Queer Eye, The L Word, American Idol etc. Also a biodefence lab is coming to the East Bay and SFist teaches wine pairing. Getting on the wrong train sucks. Getting on the wrong train and becoming the victim of what will later be described as a "stabbing spree" really sucks.... more ›

Commerce vs. Conscience

Commerce vs. Conscience

Ben Affleck: You gotta do the safe picture. Then you can do the art picture. But then sometimes you gotta do the payback picture because your friend says you owe him. And sometimes, you have to go back to the well. Matt Damon: And sometimes, you do Reindeer Games. --From the movie Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back It comes out of the mouths of slightly fictionalized versions of themselves, but this spot-on quote illustrates... more ›

Red Light, Greenlight

Red Light, Greenlight

For movie junkies, one of the most entertaining reality shows over the last couple years has been the Matt Damon-Ben Affleck brainchild Project Greenlight. It’s too bad that while the show features plenty of gripping behind-the-scenes drama and great real-life characters – someone really should just follow around producer Chris Moore with a camera, Barack Obama-style – the movies it has produced haven’t been as interesting. (Remember Stolen Summer or The Battle of Shaker Heights? Exactly.) Hopefully, that will change with this year’s installment, now with the commercial breaks and bleeped swears of the Bravo Network. Five Chicagoans made it into the top 250 finalists, with two local talents even entering the top ten. Cheer them on tonight at Excalibur, where they will all talk and show their work. Thanks to Ryan for the tip!
