Weezer Revisits Their Past, Visits Chicago
While we actually have some nice things to say about Weezer's latest album Hurley, it can't be a great sign when the first massive tour Weezer is mounting after its release is a sentimental revisiting of the band's first two albums. Of course that should have been obvious when it was announced a few weeks ago that the band was going to be releasing a deluxe re-issue of Pinkerton, huh?
Rock Around This Christmas Sweater
Move over Donny and Marie... your Chicagoist staff is going to be appearing in a shopping mall food court sashaying like these incestuous two. (What is up with their side-stepping dance?) A word of caution: use of star filters aside, this might make you ill. Particularly when Donny sits in Santa's lap.
The Thirsty Whale Never Forgets
If you are of a certain advanced age, and were ever into the rock and/or roll of the hair metal variety, chances are you patronized The Thirsty Whale. It closed in 1996 after a long run of playing host the the harder rocking bands throughout Chicago and it's suburbs. O.K., and Indiana too. Our band once played there but we didn't quite fit the mold since we sang wearing a hockey mask and a black one-piece dress ... but we did at least have the prerequisite long hair.
