Another Honor For Oprah

Another Honor For Oprah

She's heading in to the final season of the current incarnation of her show and prepping to go to the next stage - her own network - and the accolades keep rolling in for Oprah. This morning, she was named one of 2010 Kennedy Center honorees. Her reaction? "Wowie gazowie.” (We prefer fellow honoree Merle Haggard's reaction, calling it a “nice kick in the stomach.”) Oprah (and Merle) will be joined by Sir Paul McCartney, Jerry Herman, and Bill T. Jones. The honorees are "recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts." Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein said of The Big O, "For more than 25 years, Oprah Winfrey has established one of the most innovative careers in the entertainment world, with distinctive accomplishments in television and film." The ceremony will be held on December 5 and broadcast on television on December 28. We look forward to watching as it will probably be the only time we see Merle and Oprah on stage together and because, selfishly, we want to see them duet on "Pancho and Lefty." more ›

Los Angeles, We Never Knew You Cared

Dear LAist, When we read your mash note this morning, we were all set to go all Superboy-Prime on you. Such is the way we get when we read things that are critical of the City of Big Shoulders. Except that it wasn't really critical. Maybe it was the full night's rest we got last night, or the really strong latte. Or the cold pizza we had for breakfast. Or maybe it was the... more ›

Dylan To Hit Chicago In April

Dylan To Hit Chicago In April

Last week, the first dates for Bob Dylan’s 2005 Tour were announced and they include a five-night run at the Auditorium Theatre. What’s that you say? Big deal? Dylan tours all the time? Well, yes. But it’s not every day that you see a double bill of Dylan with Merle Haggard and the Strangers. Throw in previous tour mate Amos Lee and you’ve got “The Bob Dylan Show” from April 1st through April 6th. more ›
