It Was 25 Years Ago Today.

While the city starts to embrace the Bulls and their return to prominence in a way we haven't seen since the end of the Jordan Era, a quarter century ago today Michael Jordan set a playoff scoring record 63 points against the Boston Celtics that still stands. Jordan only played 18 games during the 1985-86 season and team officials advised he sit out the season to give him some extra recuperation time. Jordan refused and led the Bulls to the final playoff spot, drawing the eventual champion Celtics in the first round. Although Boston swept the Bulls in the series, Jordan was an unstoppable one-man wrecking crew more ›

Morning Box Score: Bulls Balanced Attack Beats Bobcats, Hawks Struck By Lightning

Morning Box Score: Bulls Balanced Attack Beats Bobcats, Hawks Struck By Lightning

Add Michael Jordan to the growing list of current and former players proclaiming Derrick Rose NBA MVP. Jordan made his proclamation after the Bulls' 101-84 win over his Charlotte Bobcats. As for Rose, he had a workmanlike game with 20 points and six assists, but he hit four of his six three-point shots. The Bulls showed off their bench depth last night. Kyle Korver matched Rose with 20 points of his own, while Taj Gibson added 14 and Ronnie Brewer 10. Gibson might be back in a starting role, depending on the severity of Carlos Boozer's sprained ankle. Boozer was fouled hard going to the basket by the Bobcats' Kwame Brown last night, left the game and didn't return. more ›

With the ghosts of Bulls past observing the game at courtside in Scottie Pippen and Bobcats owner Michael Jordan, the Bulls used tough defense, good bench production and the slashing game of Luol Deng to beat Charlotte 106-94. But the Bobcats showed last night that they're a team on the rise and that their two previous wins over the Bulls weren't flukes. more ›

The Friday Flashback: Young Michael Jordan

With his endorsements, his appearance in the NBA 2K11 video game and the continued frenzy (and sometimes homicides) over his shoes, Michael Jordan as an international brand is as hot as ever. Earlier this week, Deadspin excerpted a chapter from the Undisputed Guide to Pro Basketball History, from the writers behind the wonderful basketball website Free Darko. The chapter, from Bethlehem Shoals, dealt with a young Michael Jordan, just launching his professional career, and how Jordan was considered rebellious, even edgy, at the time. more ›

"Jordan Rides The Bus" Debuts on ESPN

"Jordan Rides The Bus" Debuts on ESPN

In 1993, Michael Jordan stunned the world when he walked away from basketball at the height of his popularity. He had just won his third straight title with the Bulls and was the most famous person on earth following the Dream Team's triumphant gold medal run at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Even more stunning was his retirement endeavor. MJ gave up the charter planes and ritzy hotels of the NBA lifestyle for the long bus rides and small town accommodations known all too well to minor league baseball players. Jordan joined the Birmingham Barons, the White Sox Double A minor league affiliate, to give his baseball dreams a go. In his one season, Jordan appeared in 127 games and batted .202 with 3 home runs, 51 RBIs and 30 stolen bases in 436 at-bats -- not exactly major league material. more ›

Murder of Michael Jordan's Dad To Be Reviewed

When Michael Jordan's father James was found to have been shot to death in North Carolina in 1993, Chicago was shocked. That one act so shattered Michael that he left the sport he loved and turned to another interest, baseball, because his father always envisioned him in the MLB. When he did return, he wore number 45 instead of 23 because he wanted his final game while wearing that number to have been the NBA Finals victory, the last game his father saw him play. The famous scene of MJ curled up on the court clutching the basketball after the Bulls defeating the Sonics in the 1996 NBA Finals took place because that win came on Father's Day. more ›

Jordan On Lebron: I Wanted To Beat The Best, Not Join Them

Jordan On Lebron: I Wanted To Beat The Best, Not Join Them

Michael Jordan gave us a reminder of that ever-burning fire of competitive spirit this weekend when he sounded off on Lebron's decision to take his talents to South Beach. After a celebrity golf tournament broadcast on NBC, Jordan (thankfully devoid of the recent questionable 'stache) sat down to answer some questions. After talking about the evolution of the game's finances, wondering if it'd be different if his generation could play against the Kobe Bryants and Tim Duncans of today, he finally offered up this nugget of perspective on that whole Lebron James situation that you might have heard something about. more ›

Space Jam Based On Sacred Mayan Text?

Space Jam Based On Sacred Mayan Text?

Via CINE-FILE contributor Michael Castelle, we learn of a mind-bending paper written by former Chicago gay rights activist and linguistics professor Michal Brody. She argues that the Michael Jordan/Bugs Bunny flick Space Jam contains several uncanny parallels to the Popol Vuh, the sacred Mayan text detailing the ancient people's creation account. (The earliest surviving copy of this manuscript is actually in the collection of the Newberry Library.) more ›

Michael Jordan's Curious Facial Hair

Michael Jordan's Curious Facial Hair

There's a new ad campaign for Hanes featuring former Bulls legend Michael Jordan. But it's not the product that has folks talking; rather, it's Jordan's curious facial hair, which most are referring to as Jordan's "Hitler mustache." While there seems to be no official word on why Jordan has chosen to go with the short 'stache, some, such as SB Nation's brilliant Spencer Hall (no, really, he's one of the best sports bloggers out there), has hypothesized a few possibilities: more ›
