Chicago Film Office Director Richard Moskal confirmed with Crain's that filming on the Zack Snyder-directed Superman film will begin in Chicago August 7.

Kneel Before Zod: Michael Shannon Cast As Superman Villain
The forthcoming Superman movie Man of Steel certainly seems to have a mottled appearance. Cringeworthy: it'll be directed by Zach Snyder (Sucker Punch); Clark Kent's dad will be played by Kevin Costner; we don't really need either a new Superman movie or a new superhero movie, period. Possibly cool: Christopher Nolan is producing; it'll be partially shot in Chicago and Plano, Illinois; the character of General Zod will return and will be played by Michael Shannon.
A Red Orchid Theatre's Mistakes Opens Off-Broadway
When Mistakes Were Made opened here last year, we wouldn't have predicted it'd be heading for The Big Apple. Sure, Michael Shannon is an Oscar nominee, and his stage presence is absolutely riveting, but we figured that an extended play that consists almost entirely of a single character talking on the phone would be a bit of hard sell for the New York stage. Luckily, we were wrong.
Michael Shannon's Play Extended
Mistakes Were Made, starring the Oscar nominee and currently running at A Red Orchid Theatre in Old Town, has been extended. The remainder of its run had been sold out but now Wednesday evening performances have been added through October 28. Hurry up and get tickets now. Shannon's performance is absolutely volcanic, and at only $30 a pop they won't last long.
The Value Of Access
Want to interview Oscar-nominee Michael Shannon in Venice? $1500, please. Want to see him star in the world premiere of a new play here in Chicago? $30. Chicago's sure been getting dissed a lot lately. But a recent news item suggests that perhaps you can still get more bang for your buck right here.
Chicagoist Podcast #4 - Fame, Fortune and a Clown
A slightly shorter podcast this week, but the star power packed within should offset that somewhat, we hope. Last week's Tribune article about the leftovers from the Bozo show piqued our curiosity - who wouldn't want to have the Bozo Buckets hanging around their house? So we contacted our Bozo of choice, Joey D'Auria, who spoke with us about his experience on the show, as well as what he's kept from his time at WGN.
Michael Shannon Oscar Night Podcast Teaser
We'll have the whole podcast up tomorrow, but wanted to give you guys a taste of the conversation we had with Michael Shannon, who's nominated tonight for "Revolutionary Road." Despite the overwhelming odds that Heath is going to take the statue (or more accurately, someone will take it for him) we're rooting for the local boy - local enough, as you'll hear us discuss in this clip.
Oh Gee, It's Oscar Season
We've been so preoccupied lately with Blago and Huberman that we forgot to get excited about the Oscar nominations. Frankly, compared to last year, this year's crop holds a lot less excitement for us, although there are some notable exceptions. It's pretty awesome to see Richard Jenkins and Werner Herzog (!) up for awards, but coolest of all is the Best Supporting Actor nomination for long-time Chicago actor Michael Shannon in Revolutionary Road.
