Cook County's Comings And Goings

Forbes magazine has put up a map that allows you visualize the comings and goings of people across the United States in 2008 when the magazine says 10 million Americans moved from one county to another. The map uses IRS data to track the moves with one caveat: each line above is for at least 10 moves between counties so counties that saw migration of fewer than 10 people weren't included. We checked out Cook County to see where we lost residents to and where we gained more from. Not surprisingly, most of those who left Chicago did those for warmer locales south and west of the icy winter tundra, specifically Californina, southeast Texas, and Florida. And where did we get our biggest influx from? The Midwest, of course, with Minnesota and southern Michigan sending several people this way, as well as the northeast. Clicking on each county will allow you to see how many people migrated between that county and Cook County as well as average incomes of those that moved. Happy clicking. more ›
