Bad News Bear

Poor Mike Brown. He's fought a host of injuries in his time with the Bears: Achilles, calf, Lisfranc fracture, and knee. And now a calf injury that has been bothering Brown off-and-on all season has led to Brown once again being placed on injured reserve, ending his season regardless of whether or not the Bears make the playoffs. Brown left the Packers game Monday night and was replaced by Craig Steltz. To fill the roster hole, the Bears have re-signed Cameron Worrell. more ›

Another Brown Out

Another Brown Out

Yeah, this is exactly what the Bears needed as they're about to start the second half of their season. Already sporting the second worst running game in the NFL, the Bears announced on Thursday that they had put starting guard Ruben Brown on injured reserve -- ending his season. A shoulder injury requiring surgery was the culprit. Ruben Brown joins Mike Brown and Dusty Dvoracek as the third starter lost for the season. The loss... more ›

New QB, Same Results

New QB, Same Results

Things are not looking very good for the Bears. With Sunday's 37-27 loss to the Detroit Lions, the Bears showed their weaknesses on both sides of the ball. The first game of the Brian Griese era was no more successful than the Bears under Rex Grossman. Supposedly the safe game manager, Griese threw three interceptions — two while the Bears were in the "red zone." The other one was returned 64 yards for a touchdown.... more ›

Brown Out, Dvoracek Too

Brown Out, Dvoracek Too

When we saw Mike Brown leave the game with an injury, Chicagoist feared the worst. Once again, one of the Bears' best defensive players and leaders on the field has a great game going and then has to leave the game prematurely. And the tears in the locker room after the game certainly didn't make us any less worried. Monday evening, our fears were confirmed when the Bears announced that Mike Brown had blown out... more ›

Bears Fumble Away Opener

Bears Fumble Away Opener

Nobody expected the Bears to go 16-0 this season, or even to start 7-0 like last year. And it's not too shocking that they would lose to a team that went 14-2 last year. But we're still plenty disappointed that the Bears lost to the San Diego Chargers 14-3 on Sunday in their season opener. The Bears' defense looked like it was in midseason form on Sunday, holding the high-scoring Chargers offense in check most... more ›

Safety in Numbers

Safety in Numbers

The Bears' offseason thus far has been a pretty unbearable affair for fans. We watched the tension grow between team management and head coach Lovie Smith before Lovie finally got the extension and raise he deserved for taking the Bears to the Super Bowl. We saw defensive coordinator — and member of the 1985 Super Bowl team — Ron Riviera fired. Thomas Jones traded. Lance Briggs telling anyone and everyone he's upset at the Bears'... more ›

Bears To Face Seahawks

Bears To Face Seahawks

While the Bears have known for weeks now that they'd be hosting their first playoff game, they finally know their opponent. The Bears will host the Seattle Seahawks at noon on Sunday following Seattle's miracle win over the Dallas Cowboys. When the Bears and Seahawks faced off in Week 4, Chicagoist was jumping off our couch in excitement as the Bears trounced the 'Hawks 37-6. But does that October win give any indication of how... more ›

Bears Need OT To Beat Bucs

Bears Need OT To Beat Bucs

If Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is any indication of how the defense has been weakened due to injuries and legal troubles, the Bears could be in trouble come January. While they eked out a 34-31 win, they needed overtime to do so in a game that looked wrapped up at halftime. After missing a field goal attempt earlier in OT, kicker Robbie Gould connected on the 25-yard game winner. Rex Grossman had... more ›

Orange Crush

Orange Crush

While the Bears had to come from way behind to steal their last victory against the Arizona Cardinals, the Bears win was never in doubt against the San Francisco 49ers this week as they took a 41-0 lead into the locker room at halftime en route to a 41-10 win. The Bears scored a field goal on their opening possession and then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. A Thomas Jones TD run gave... more ›

Bears Continue to Show Rust

Bears Continue to Show Rust

The Bears played their third preseason game on Friday night and again did not look like a team expected to win the NFC North. And this was the game that the starters tended to play more of the game. Granted, some starteers continue to sit because of injuries, but the team needs to improve if they expect to match expectations for the regular season. While Lovie Smith again reiterated that Rex Grossman is the starting... more ›

Six Bears Named to Pro Bowl

Six Bears Named to Pro Bowl

While they still don't know whether they'll be visiting Detroit later this winter, six Bears will be going to Honolulu. The Pro Bowl Teams were announced on Wednesday with six Bears mading the NFC squad. Not really a surprise, five of the six are on defense. Brian Urlacher makes his 5th trip to the Pro Bowl and will be joined by safety Mike Brown, cornerback Nathan Vasher, linebacker Lance Briggs and defensive tackle Tommie Harris.... more ›

Bears Alone in First

Bears Alone in First

The Bears and Detroit Lions faced off yesterday in Detroit with first place in the NFC North at stake. While they couldn't finish the job in regulation, the Bears eventually beat the Lions -- winning 19-13 when Peanut Tillman ran an interception back for a TD in overtime. After Tillman picked off Lion QB Jeff Garcia, safety Mike Brown pointed him towards the end zone. Just in case he didn't know where it was,... more ›

Bears Beat Lions 38-6

Bears Beat Lions 38-6

Something told Chicagoist that the Bears had the potential to be a pretty good football team this season, and Sunday's game was about what we'd imagined a good Bears team might look like. Scoring in just about every possible way, the Bears beat the Detroit Lions 38-6. The 38 points were the largest offensive output by the Bears since 1993. The game was truly a team effort as the offense capitalized on turnovers caused by... more ›

With the 4th Pick...

With the 4th Pick...

Another painful Bears season wrapped up Sunday, with the Packers avenging their earlier loss 31-14. In the rout, the Packers tied a team record with 9 sacks. And the Packers, having already locked up the NFC North title, mostly played their backups. Packers QB Brett Favre sat after the Pack took a 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter. No matter, they still killed the Bears. more ›

Painful Loss!

Painful Loss!

Three weeks into the season, and the Bears defense already lost Jerry Azumah, Alfonso Boone, Mike Brown and Charles Tillman for all or most of the season. Brian Urlacher sitting because of his hamstring-- which caused him to miss the whole pre-season--is not a good sigh. And now the Bears lose their field general on the offensive side of the ball. The Bears will now have to rely on Jonathan Quinn at QB for the rest of the season. Unless they decide to sign one of the free agent QB's still looking for a job, like Jeff George... What do you think the should do at QB -- stick with Quinn or look for a more experienced passer? more ›
