Carlos Pena's tiebreaking homer may still be rolling down Sheffield.
Morning Box Score: Pena Wins One for Cubs, Sox Clog Bases in Loss
Morning Box Score: Sox Blank Twins, Unlucky 13 for Cubs
Jake Peavy continued the White Sox strong pitching run at Target Field, while the Cubs got lucky to send their game last night into extras.
Morning Box Score: Sox Rebound in Minnesota; Garza, Marmol Lock Up Reds
Philip Humber and Zack Stewart had strong starts for the White Sox, while Matt Garza did the same for the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Afternoon Box Score: Sox Fail to Sweep Twins
Consecutive doubles by Jason Repko, Trevor Plouffe and Joe Mauer set the tone for a six-run first inning against Jake Peavy.
Morning Box Score: Sox Rally, Cubs Lift Garza
The White Sox recent callups from Charlotte haven't been taught to curl in a fetal position when playing Minnesota.
Morning Box Score: Buehrle Blanks Twins, Cubs Beat Lincecum
Mark Buehrle and Randy Wells stymied their respective opponents last night. For Wells, it was the Cubs starter's first career shutout.
Afternoon Box Score: White Sox Sweep Twins, Cubs Streak Ends

Morning Box Score: Sox Solve Minnesota Again
The Sox showed they can beat the Twins in consecutive games last night.
Morning Box Score: Sox Snap Skid in Minnesota
Mark Buehrle was an Adam Dunn error away from a possible shutout last night.
Morning Box Score: First Half Mercifully Behind Cubs, White Sox

Morning Box Score: Cubs Win (But Dempster Isn't Happy), Sox Finally Beat Twins
Hell froze over at U.S. Cellular Field yesterday.
Morning Box Score: One Painful White Sox Loss
The question asked when the White Sox and Twins meet is "How will the Sox lose?" It's a valid question, even with a 5-1 lead after one inning.
Morning Box Score: Cubs Fight Back, Beat Nationals; Sox Curl Up in Ball Against Twins
The Cubs finally broke through against Washington last night while the White Sox continued to be flummoxed by Minnesota.
Guillen: Twins are "Sardines," "Midgets"
Ozzie Guillen tried out two new nicknames for the Minnesota Twins after yesterday's Twin Cities Liturgy.
Afternoon Box Score: Twin Cities Liturgy
As White Sox fans, we're at the point where we feel bringing white flags of surrender may be a better option than having to watch a pitching gem by Mark Buehrle get wasted like this.
Morning Box Score: Twins Still Have Sox' Number
No Mauer? No Morneau? No Thome? No problem (for the Twins).
Sox Must Beat Twins to Contend in AL Central
Few 26-39 baseball teams scare a fan base like the Twins do White Sox nation.
Afternoon Box Score: White Sox End Homestand From Hell With Loss [Updated with Cubs Win]
At least the White Sox were able to hit the ball today. Too bad it wasn't enough to get John Danks his first win of the season as the Sox closed out a 1-5 homestand with a 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Danks had another quality start, giving up all three runs in eight innings of work. But it was the defense that failed him in the sixth inning when both Mark teahan and Paul Konerko broke to field a bunt from Matt Tolbert, allowing Tolbert to reach safely while advancing Denard Span to second. Span later scored on a Jason Kubel sacrifice fly. The White Sox have been unable to do any two things - pitching, hitting and fielding - right this season. And that's why they're at the bottom of the AL Central standings.
Baseball Box Score: Liriano No-Nos White Sox, Cubs Rally Past Dodgers
The way the White Sox are hitting lately they could be no-hit in a t-ball league.
White Sox Fan Tossed Back in New Twins Commercial
The White Sox's AL Central rival Minnesota Twins are getting ready to move out of the HHH Metrodome and into the new Target Field, which boast such amenities as a view of the sky (they'll love that in April) and a field designed exclusively for baseball. A new commercial supposedly portrays the move, with movers unpacking a truck filled with bats, a World Series trophy and crate filled with Denard Span, Michael Cuddyer and a whole lot of foam peanuts. When a White Sox fan gets hauled off the truck, one of the movers exclaims, "Woah, Woah, Woah! Doesn't belong here..." before he gets tossed back on the truck. We Sox fans are tough so we can take the ribbing -- and the toss back into the truck. We just hope the Twins made sure to use lots of extra bubble wrap on Joe Crede, because he's extremely fragile. Morning Box Score: Meltdown Continues for White Sox
The White Sox pitching staff has apparently run out of gas. Another night and another game thrown away by the club's lack of pitching. While the Sox hitters have finally begun to produce runs again, the club's woes on the mound meant that for the second straight night, the White Sox were unable to capitalize on an opportunity to gain ground on the Minnesota Twins in the race for the AL Central. Their pitching staff again allowed double digit run totals on the way to a 12-6 loss to the Cleveland Indians.
Sox Sign Buehrle
After weeks of negotiations and a supposed stalemate that looked likely to end his White Sox career, Mark Buerhle and the Sox came to an agreement Sunday on a four-year, $56 million deal that will end all trade speculation about the lefty ace.
Swept Away
This is not a fun time to be a baseball fan in Chicago. Whether a White Sox or Cubs fan, you no doubt have that sinking feeling about your team's prospects for the postseason after they were swept this week. The Cubs lost 9-0 to the Florida Marlins on Wednesday, following a day full of meetings. The players held one. So did management. Didn't help, at least on Wednesday. The players felt they needed to...
One and Done
We'd known this day was coming, yet we remained in denial. We distracted ourselves with the Bears and hoped we'd suddenly hear some pleasantly unexpected news. Instead, we learn that the White Sox are offically out of the playoff hunt on account of their 14-1 loss to Cleveland Monday night. Earlier in the evening, the Minnesota Twins beat the KC Royals 8-1, cutting their magic number to one. The Sox loss changed it to...
Sox Split Key Series With Tigers
In less than 20 hours, the White Sox salvaged what was looking like an ugly series, and one that could have ended all hope for winning the AL Central title.
Eenie Meanie Minie Moe, Catch the Tigers...
Was it only a week ago that the Sox sat in third place in the AL Central, 10 games behind the Detroit Tigers? My, how things change quickly!
Kirby Puckett Dies at 45
Hall of Fame baseball player and Chicago native Kirby Puckett died at 45 on Monday, one day after suffering a massive stroke. His life, like his career, was cut short. He was forced to retire from baseball in 1996 because of glaucoma. In his twelve seasons with the Minnesota Twins, he hit .318 with 207 home runs and 1085 RBIs. He made 10 consecutive All-Star Game appearances and won 6 Gold Glove awards for his...
Frank Thomas Done with White Sox, Wearing Yellow Ones Soon?
Chicagoist still remembers hearing of a hot prospect getting called up to the White Sox in 1990 and rememebrs being in the right field stands at the old Comiskey Park about 20 feet away from a ball that was THIS CLOSE to going out for his first major league homer. He'd end up hitting 7 during that late-season call-upon his way to 448 in a Sox uniform. So it's really hard to believe that following a 16 year run on with the White Sox, Frank Thomas is gone. The team cut ties with the future Hall of Famer on Wednesday by not offering him salary arbitration, making him a free agent. Thomas had spent his entire career on the South Side -- one of the rare players who had remained with their original team for more than 10 years.
1969 Revisited?
Are the Sox on the verge of an epic choke even larger than that of the legendary '69 Cubs? That team held an 8 1/2 lead over the Cardinals and 9 1/2 game lead over the Mets on August 14th. By August 31st, that lead was down to 4 games. By September 10th, the Mets were in first place and finished the season up 8 games by virtue of their 24-8 finish.
Sox Sweep is Sweet
Chicagoist was accused last week of too much Cubs coverage, which we found amusing seeing as we're a Sox fan. While the Northside team may have been more newsworthy, the Southsiders have quietly been one of the best stories of this young season. With a 10-4 record, they have the best record in the AL and the second best in all of Major League Baseball.
