Rush Ready to Kick-Off 2008 Season

Rush Ready to Kick-Off 2008 Season

The Chicago Rush will kick off their eighth season in the Arena Football League with a primetime Monday Night Football match-up with the San Jose Sabercats. The League picked a great match-up for the first Monday Night Football game of the year. The game features the last two Arena Bowl Champions as the Sabercats took the title in 2007 and the Rush earned the title in 2006. The AFL "pre-season power poll" ranks San Jose first and the Rush second out of 17 teams. That same poll predicts that the Rush will take back the Arena Bowl title in 2008. more ›

Bears Bumped From Prime Time

Bears Bumped From Prime Time

NBC announced on Monday that they are bumping the Bears - Seahawks game that was scheduled for the November 18 Sunday Night Football has been bumped in favor of the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills. Chicagoist really can't fault NBC for this move. While we Bears fans feel obligated to watch their games -- no matter how ugly -- we really don't want the rest of the country to see the sorry state of... more ›

Finishing the Fight, Chicago Style

Finishing the Fight, Chicago Style

Have you noticed the photos and merchandise featuring a green metal soldier throughout the city? At your local 7-Eleven there are Slurpee cups featuring the same soldier carrying a flag, there is a strange red-orange new flavor of Mountain Dew called Game Fuel, there is a commercial with a elderly man talking about the great battle where "Master Chief" saved his life, and there's another where "Master Chief" seemingly comes alive in the middle of a massive diorama. There are books, comics, web "machinima," toys, and even an article in Time Magazine. This is Halo. more ›

Rush Look for a Monday Night Football Three-peat

This week's match-up between the Chicago Rush and the Dallas Desperados has been moved into the prime Monday night slot. The decision could not have been a tough one, as many predict this could be a preview of ArenaBowl XXI. The Rush (8-1) and the Desperados (9-1), along with the Georgia Force (8-1), are the only teams in the league with less than three losses. more ›

ESPN Owns Monday Night Football

ESPN saw its NFL ratings jump with their move from Sunday night football last year to the "Monday Night Football" slot this season. ESPN will look to keep up the momentum and offer football fans almost year-round "Monday Night Football" action. The Arena Football League and ESPN entered into a five-year agreement for television rights earlier this week. The course of the Arena Football League season runs from March, just a month after the Super Bowl, right up to the start of NFL training camp in July. more ›

A Whole Bunch of Wannabes

A Whole Bunch of Wannabes

The political season is over for most of the country. Hell, it's over for most of the media, and all the other people that sit around and watch it like "Monday Night Football." For the next month and a half, most of us will be thinking about eggnog, latkes, Wild Turkey with grandma, and how to pick up that cashier at Jewel with the intriguing accent. But if there's one group of people that are... more ›

Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse

The -ists this week had politics on the brain. And what goes better with politics? Partying-- that's two great tastes in one. Oh, and Kevin Federline...can't forget about Kevin Federline. That's three great tastes in one. -Bostonist discussed two big state issues-- what sort of math constitutes a marriage and what kind of alcohol can be sold in most grocery stores. And the politically minded Curt Schilling went on "Jeopardy!". -Chicagoist celebrated the election... more ›

A Team of Destiny

A Team of Destiny

We're stunned! Absolutely stunned! And so are you! Unless you were already in bed, disappointed that the Bears wouldn't go undefeated this year. And then you were stunned when you woke up this morning. The Bears' entire team played terribly in the first half, and their offense made last year's look potent for the entire game. Rex Grossman threw 4 interceptions to go along with two fumbles. Yet the Bears somehow erased a number... more ›

Bears Schedule Released

Bears Schedule Released

The NFL released the 2006 schedule today, so we thought we'd take a first look at the Bears' 2006 schedule. The Bears open the season against their biggest rivals -- the Green Bay Packers. Will Brett Favre still be their QB then? He has yet to indicate whether he's returning or retiring. Either way, the Bears can expect a win their opening game because the Packers will be pretty bad. Is it really a Bears-Packers... more ›

MNF RIP?
