Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan is using the current conflict in Libya to renew interest in the Nation of Islam. The Chicago News Cooperative reports that Farrakhan’s defense of his “brother,” Libyan dictator Colonel Moammar Qaddafi has given him a chance to bring the Nation back into the public eye. Membership in the organization has dropped to almost half the 100,000 members the Nation was estimated to have in the mid 90’s.
Farrakhan Using Libya Conflict to Recruit New Nation of Islam Members
Farrakhan: Gaddafi is a Friend
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakahn spoke on Libya, an uprising in America and UFO's in a four hour speech on Sunday in suburban Rosemont. The Sun-Times reports Farrakhan called Libyan dictator Mummar Gaddafi a friend in his keynote speech at the 81st annual celebration of Saviour's Day. The minister also said that no leader is loved by 100 percent of his people and warned that America will face a revolution similar to the uprisings across the Middle East. The Tribune reports Farrakhan told the audience "What you are looking at in Tunisia, in Egypt
Libya, in Bahrain
what you see happening there
you’d better prepare because it will be coming to your door."
No Sidewalk Civility in Kenwood as Presidential Press Clash with Fruit of Islam
The tiny enclave of mansions from the last turn of the century that is the Kenwood neighborhood can be a weird place. Current money mixes comfortably with history---this is, after all, where Leopold and Loeb decided they were supermen. Perhaps, more notably, and certainly more recently, only a couple blocks separate two of the nation's most recognizable African American figures: Barack Obama and Louis Farrakhan. The President’s house is typical of the neighborhood’s architecture, while the Minister’s yellow-stoned façade certainly stands out.
Farrakhan Foretells "White Right" Conspiracy Against Obama
Speaking to a crowd of 20,000 followers at the United Center yesterday, Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan warned of a "white right" conspiracy against President Obama. The event, commemorating Saviours' Day, featured a four-hour speech from Farrakhan in which he predicted trouble for President Obama. Farrakhan, who claims he can foretell certain events ("The word 'prophet' is too cheap a word. I am a light in the midst of darkness."), warned President Obama of a conspiracy against him from conservatives. From the Associated Press:
Farrakhan Opens Up About Michael Jackson
Controversial Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan has finally begun to open about his relationship to Michael Jackson in the wake of the pop star's recent death. At a service at Mosque Maryam yesterday morning, Farrakhan said, "I told Michael, don't be angry with your father, because even though you didn't have pillow fights and sleepovers, those who had pillow fights and had sleepovers - they're the ones buying your records and they're the ones coming to see you. You had a purpose for your life." Jackson had a few ties to the Nation of Islam, including his brother Jermaine, who was a member, and his use of Nation of Islam guards at his child molestation trial a few years back. [CBS 2]
