The NBA Draft played out pretty much as we expected for former University of Illinois basketball player Jereme Richmond, who declared for the draft in April to the surprise of many.
Illini's Richmond Passed Over in NBA Draft... Who's to Blame?
Bulls Look to Long-Term Future With Draft
With two late first round picks and a second rounder, the Bulls didn't expect to find any impact players. Instead they took some small steps with an eye toward the future without disrupting their present.
Bulls Draft Position Not Conducive to Sexy Pick
With the 28th and 30th picks in tonight's NBA Draft, don't expect the Bulls to find an impact player in the first round.
Illinois' Richmond Bolts for NBA
Every year, there are guys who we all know are going to jump to the NBA after their freshman year at college. Many of these "one-and-done" players would've likely gone pro straight out of high school had the NBA instituted new draft eligibility rules a few years back. Rules that were enacted specifically to prevent kids from acting foolishly. For every Derrick Rose or Carmelo Anthony, there's a Korleone Young or Leon Smith.
Bulls Draft Recap: It's All About The Cap Space
As we mentioned yesterday afternoon, just prior to the start of the NBA Draft the Bulls agreed to send Kirk Hinrich and their first round pick to the Washington Wizards. The Bulls get a future second round pick in return, but the move was made explicitly to clear up even more room under the salary cap. As a result, the selection of Frenchman Kevin Seraphin doesn't mean much -- he was likely drafted at Washington's request, and will officially go to the Wizards on July 8 when the deal can be completed.
Bulls Introduce Thibodeau As Coach, Prepare for Draft
While his hiring was announced weeks ago, the Bulls formally introduced Tom Thibodeau as their new head coach on Wednesday at the Berto Center. Thibodeau comes to the Bulls after serving as an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics, who came within a game of winning the NBA Championship last week. While he came up just short of claiming a part of another Larry O'Brien trophy, Thibodeau checked out the Bulls' six pack. Fans and management hope he can help add more hardware to the case.
Bulls 2009 Draft Preview
Last year, the Bulls were sitting pretty with the top overall pick in the draft. And while some thought they should pick power forward Michael Beasley, the Bulls seem to have made the right call with their selection of point guard Derrick Rose. Not only did he take home the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy as the league's top rookie, he also helped the Bulls return to the playoffs -- where they played an epic series against Boston. As such, the Bulls avoided the draft lottery this year, and don't make their first pick in the 2009 draft until midway through the first round, at the 16th spot. The Bulls -- on account of trading Thabo Sefelosha to Oklahoma City -- also have the 26th pick. So with newly promoted GM Gar Forman running his first draft, we're interested to see what the Bulls can do to improve the team.
Bulls Draft Rose With Top Pick
Overcoming huge odds against them, the Bulls landed the NBA draft's top pick in last month's draft lottery. On Thursday night, the Bulls used that pick to draft point guard Derrick Rose.
Sure, Now Johnson's Interested...
While initially mentioned among the leading candidates for the Bulls' head coach vacancy, Avery Johnson's seeming desire to take a year off on the Mavs' dime had made him an afterthought in recent weeks, even as other top candidates landed elsewhere.
Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
Sometimes you need to clean yourself up, get serious, and move in with daddie for a few months before you head to Latin America for a new gig. The District bid's Jenna Bush adios. D.C.-based television shows have an elderly audience and DCist has some suggestions to fix that. They're also throwing Butterstick the panda bear a birthday bash. Yeah, we may have a few issues with our World Cup broadcasters here, but this guy...
Trading Places -- NBA Draft Edition
Man, what a crazy night at Madison Square Garden for the NBA Draft. As we predicted, there were a flurry of trades -- although mostly just draft picks moving around, along with throw-in future 2nd round picks and the like. The Bulls were among the early traders, drafting Texas' LaMarcus Aldridge, then shipping him to the Portland Trailblazers in return for Tyrus Thomas (picked 4th) and third year player Viktor Khryapa. Later in the...
Big Night for Bulls' Future
The NBA Draft takes place tonight, and with both the 2nd and 16th picks in the first round, it'll be a busy night for the Bulls. And a critically imporant night, as the outcome could have an substantial impact on the team's ability to return to greatness. This draft, however, is also one of the least predictable in a long time. And weaker than most -- in part due to the rules change that keeps...
Second City in NBA Draft
Chicagoist remembers when the highlight of the long, playoff-less off-season for the Bulls was the NBA Draft lottery. We saw the Bulls participate 6 years in a row, grabing the top overall pick in 1999. After a one year haitus, the Bulls again participated in the lottery event, held in the NBA's New Jersey studios. Of course, this time they participated on behalf of the New York Knicks' draft pick, traded to the Bulls as...
Bears Pick 4th in NFL Draft
While the NBA Draft Lottery is no longer the most captivating part of the Bulls season, the NFL draft sadly does rank high on the list of Bears fan's radar. By virtue of yet another pathetic season, the Bears have the 4th pick in the draft behind only San Francisco, Miami and Cleveland. The Bears needs are most prevalent on offense, so Chicagoist expects the Bears to take either a running back or wide receiver...
It's Official: Bulls Clinch Playoff Spot!
Hope you got up early on Saturday to get your playoff tickets -- Chicagoist did! Because with their 110-97 victory over the Toronto Raptors Saturday night, the Chicago Bulls cliched their first playoff berth since the Jordan era.
Busy Week for Bulls
Last night began a week of huge changes throughout the NBA. The party started with the Charlotte Bobcats' expansion draft. Charlotte selected 19 players from among those left unprotected by other teams.
Having a Ball
While fans of the Lakers, Timberwolves, Pacers and Pistons are busy following their teams' march towards the NBA Finals, the Chicago Bulls fans gear up for their seventh consecutive trip to the NBA Draft Lottery, held Wednesday night in Secaucus, New Jersey.
