The Morning After: Only The 'Hawks Survive

The Morning After: Only The 'Hawks Survive

The Blackhawks kept pace with San Jose for the top spot in the west as they eased past the Colorado Avalanche 5-2. Colin Fraser, Jonathan Toews, and Patrick Sharp all scored to give the 'Hawks a 3-0 lead. After the Avs scored twice - once late in the second and again mid-way through the third - the 'Hawks countered as Fraser scored his second of the game and Kris Vertseeg sunk an empty-net shot. The 'Hawks remained tied with the Sharks - both with 111 points - for the number one seed heading into tomorrow's finale when the 'Hawks close the season out against the rival Detroit Red Wings (2 p.m., CSN). more ›

The Morning After: Bulls Cruise, Fire Lose

The Morning After: Bulls Cruise, Fire Lose

If there was one cure for the slumping Bulls, it was the hapless New Jersey Nets; the Bulls bounced back from Thursday's beating at the hand of the Heat to crush the Nets 106-83. While Derrick Rose (7 points) and Kirk Hinrich (3 points) were quiet, Jannero Pargo led the Bulls with 27 points and Taj Gibson added 22. The Bulls were up early and started the second quarter on an 11-0 run from which the Nets wouldn't recover. The win leaves the Bulls 1.5 games back of Toronto for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with 10 games left on the calendar. Next up is a trip to Detroit this evening to take on the Pistons (5 p.m., CSN) more ›

Already losers of seven of their last eight, we called Sunday's blowout loss to the Raptors, including their ridiculous lack of tenacity, the Bulls new nadir. We were wrong: it got worse. Last night, the Bulls lost to the league's worst team, the New Jersey Nets by a 103-101 final, giving the Nets only their second win on the year. The final could have been worse as the Bulls were down by 10 going into the fourth but rallied to make things interesting. Still, when you're locked in a back-and-forth battle at home with a 1-18 team...ugh. Luol Deng and Derrick Rose both scored 27 points, with Rose reaching a double-double thanks to 10 assists in the losing effort. Coach Vinny try to remain upbeat, saying, "You keep playing. There are lots of games left. You keep fighting and keep scrapping and find a way to keep yourself in games." He's right; there are 63 games left in the season for the Bulls turn it around. We're just guessing he won't be coaching the team for a majority of it. The Bulls won't have much time to rebound as they play tonight in Atlanta (6 p.m., CSN+/ESPN). more ›

In dire need of a road win, the Bulls came through against the New Jersey Nets Monday night, 100-87. Knotted at 86 with 4:35 to play, Chicago held Jersey to just one point down the stretch while Ben Gordon sunk a pair of treys to seal the deal. Those six points brought Gordon's game total to 24, and Derrick Rose added 21 while dishing out 13 assists. Coming into the contest the Bulls were 0-for-December away from the United Center, and they hadn't won in New Jersey since 2001. more ›

Is Kobe Still Available?

Is Kobe Still Available?

Should Chicagoist be worried that the Bulls have opened their season 0-4 after dropping Tuesday night's game to the L.A. Clippers 97-91? Having watched three of their first four in their entirety, we can certainly say that the Bulls look nothing like a team who we'd predict to win 55 games and finish atop the Eastern Conference. Not only have they yet to enter the win column, but they're not even losing to elite teams.... more ›

Bulls Season Preview

Bulls Season Preview

The Bulls opened their regular season last night in in New Jersey against the Nets -- with the same results as the last eleven times they've played the Meadowlands. But what does the 109-103 overtime loss mean for the rest of the season? Not too much; it's only one game. more ›

Nets Drop Bulls, Bulls Drop to Fifth Seed

Nets Drop Bulls, Bulls Drop to Fifth Seed

One night, one game, but three seeds lost on the final night of the NBA's regular season for the Bulls. Heading into the final game, the Bulls had the upper hand in winning the second seed in the Eastern Conference. All they had to do was win. Or Cleveland had to lose. But neither came to fruition. more ›

Bulls Nip Nets, Regain Hold of 8th Seed

Bulls Nip Nets, Regain Hold of 8th Seed

It took a while. A really long while. But the Bulls finally seem to have discovered that scrappy instinct that led them to a 47-35 record last season and their first playoff appearance since MJ left town. more ›

Is There Such Thing as a Good Loss?

Is There Such Thing as a Good Loss?

The Bulls are less than a week into the regular season and have played three games so far. They've got a 1-2 record. But Chicagoist is more positive about this team than we were heading into the season. That's because the last two games, while losses, were very tight games against very good teams. more ›

Bulls Tip Off 2004-2005 Season Tonight

Bulls Tip Off 2004-2005 Season Tonight

The Bulls tip off against the New Jersey Nets tonight at the United Center. Starting the opener will be: Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich at guards, Andres Nocioni and Othella Harrington at forward and Tyson Chandler in the middle. Eddie Curry won't be in the lineup because he'll be serving the first of his two game suspension for his part in a fight against Washington during the pre-season. This lineup is likely to be fluid, however. Curry will displace Harrington once his suspension is up, shifting Chandler to forward. And if Gordon's poor pre-season play continues, look for Luol Deng to move into the starting lineup. So any way you look at it, expect two rookies in the starting lineup. more ›
