25 years ago today the second-greatest football game ever associated with the city of New Orleans took place. We're describing, of course, Super Bowl XX. In a way, Green Bay and the New York Jets may have done Chicago a favor. If you thought the hype machine was in overdrive for Bears-Packers III, imagine what could have been in store if the Bears and New England Patriots faced off in Dallas last week on the silver anniversary of the '85 Bears' coronation. We may have witnessed the discovery of new superlatives.

Morning Box Scores: Bears Buried by Pats
Despite a 9-3 record that placed the Bears near the top of the NFL, their play in most games suggested they were not really among the league's elite. Yesterday's match-up against the New England Patriots was a key test to prove where they truly stood. The forecast for the game at Soldier Field included frigid temps, snow and winds that suggested the weather might give the Bears the upper hand against the New England. Instead, Tom Brady and the rest of the Patriots seemed oblivious to the elements and jumped out to a 33-0 halftime lead, before finishing off the Bears 36-7 on Sunday afternoon.
Bears Gaining Respect: Pats Game Moved to 3:15 Start
These are the benefits of having an 8-3 record, Bears fans. With the team becoming a national story, the NFL pushed back the start of its December 12 game against the New England Patriots at Soldier Field to 3:15. It's the second Bears game this season to be moved and, if the NFC North title is on the line when the Bears face Green Bay on January 2, that game may be moved. All the other games are locked in at their regular start times.
Thursday Evening Diversion: Walter E Smithe Jumps The Gun With The Cubs
You know how every year they make up championship t-shirts for both teams in the Super Bowl? Except one of those teams has to lose, right, so their championship t-shirts end up being donated to children in third world countries? And those kids are now walking around in "New England Patriots 19-0" shirts? Well, consider this video kind of like that. Courtesy of our hilarious friends at Schadenfreude [who have a new show coming soon we'll be previewing] comes this Walter E Smithe commercial (that will never see the light of day) celebrating a successful Cubs 2008 postseason. Enjoy while you wait to see if Sarah Palin is gonna show up on that SNL special.

We would like to take a moment to thank this week's advertisers on Chicagoist.
Bears Bumped From Prime Time
NBC announced on Monday that they are bumping the Bears - Seahawks game that was scheduled for the November 18 Sunday Night Football has been bumped in favor of the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills. Chicagoist really can't fault NBC for this move. While we Bears fans feel obligated to watch their games -- no matter how ugly -- we really don't want the rest of the country to see the sorry state of...
Paralyzed at 26, Local NFL Star Dies at 55
Given the force that NFL players hit with, we are amazed that more of them don't get seriously injured. After all, that was our mom's biggest fear when Chicagoist initially went out for freshman football. And when we decided to give it up after two days — that makes her top-ten best days as a mom.
What Was He Thinking?
Chicagoist wants to know exactly what was Rex thinking? How the hell could he think a pass like that was a good idea? With the way he'd been passing? With that much time on the clock? Or was this play called by offensive coordinator Ron Turner? Either way, it was a bone-headed call and might have cost the Bears the game. The Bears looked like they were going to find a way to win yet...
At Least there was a game to Watch
Last night, the New England Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 in Super Bowl XXXIX. A pretty ugly game throughout, at least it was a close game from start to finish. Last night's game was only the second Super Bowl ever to go into halftime with a tie. And the first time a Super Bowl ever entered the 4th quarter tied. After 10 straight points by the Pats, the Eagles could only counter with 7 of their own before time expired, giving New England it's third NFL title in 4 seasons.
Local Flavor to Super Bowl XXXIX
Sure, it's been a while since the Bears played in the Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean that there are no Chicago ties to this year's big game. When the Philadelphia Eagles take on the New England Patriots (the ones the Bears beat 46-10 in Super Bowl XX), there will be plenty of locally grown players as well as a number of former Bears.
