Residents of the NFC North, one of the People We Just Wish Would Go Away is back. Even the non-Bears fans among us have circled November 29 and December 28 on our calendars.

Vikings Run Over Bears
If you watched Sunday's Bears-Vikings game, you know — without a doubt — who the two most exciting players in the NFL are. The Bears have one of the guys on their roster, but the Vikings have the other, and he led Minnesota to a 34-31 victory. Devin Hester started the scoring by returning a punt 89 yards for a touchdown — his third return TD of the season. Hester also scored the Bears' final...
Rex Sux, Bears Clinch Anyway
Chicagoist gets our fill of hearing leaders professing the importance of "staying the course" when we're watching MSNBC — we don't need it on ESPN, too! Yet that's what we got from Bears head coach Lovie Smith, who insisted in his post-game press conference that he's sticking with Rex Grossman as his quarterback. Rex is our quarterback. We didn't get the job done and we turned the football over. We have won with him. The...
Bears Take Commanding Lead in NFC North
This game was a good bit closer than their previous two, and Chicagoist even feared for a while that they might actually lose, but the Bears won again on Sunday! In beating the Minnesota Vikings 19-16 in the Metrodome, the Bears won up there for the first time since 2001 and have started a season 3-0 for the first time since 1991. More importantly, this win gives the Bears a 3-0 record against the NFC...
Bears Pick Apart Packers
Well, that sure looked easy! Opening up at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, the Bears made it perfectly clear who controls the NFC North this year, shutting out the Packers 26-0. This was the first time in Brett Favre's career that the Packers had been held scoreless. The Bears put together a complete effort, winning this game because of their offense, defense and special teams. Rex Grossman looked like a real QB, compiling a 98.6...
Bears Season Preview
The Bears open their 2006 season on Sunday against the Packers up in Green Bay. What a way to kick the season off! While the Bears look to figure into the playoff picture, the Packers are focusing on the Brett Favre farewell (maybe) tour. The Bears should open with a key road victory against a division opponent, but in these big rivalries, one never knows. So just how good are the Bears this year? That's...
Bears Continue to Show Rust
The Bears played their third preseason game on Friday night and again did not look like a team expected to win the NFC North. And this was the game that the starters tended to play more of the game. Granted, some starteers continue to sit because of injuries, but the team needs to improve if they expect to match expectations for the regular season. While Lovie Smith again reiterated that Rex Grossman is the starting...
Bears Schedule Released
The NFL released the 2006 schedule today, so we thought we'd take a first look at the Bears' 2006 schedule. The Bears open the season against their biggest rivals -- the Green Bay Packers. Will Brett Favre still be their QB then? He has yet to indicate whether he's returning or retiring. Either way, the Bears can expect a win their opening game because the Packers will be pretty bad. Is it really a Bears-Packers...
Bears Sign Griese
We mentioned last week that the Bears were meeting with quarterback Brian Griese over the weekend. We guess the meeting went well, because yesterday the Bears inked him to a 5-year deal. After being cut by Tampa Bay in a salary cap move, he received inquiries from Cincinnati Miami, Baltimore and Oakland. Tampa even wanted to re-sign him to differently structured deal. But he chose to sign with the Bears, at least in part because...
Bears to Face Panthers
Having earned a first round playoff bye, the Chicago Bears probably spent Sunday the same way Chicagoist did -- on the couch watching a little football. While we were trying to recover from our Mexican vacation-induced football withdrawal, the Bears were watching to find out who they'd welcome to Soldier Field next weekend.
The Blame Game
The Bears 8-game winning streak came to an end yesterday, as the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Bears 21-9 in a cold, snowy Heinz Field. In spite of the "Bears football" weather, they were outplayed on both side of the ball. That resulted in plenty of blame to go around for the loss. Going into the game, most eyes were focused on Kyle Orton. With Rex Grossman healthy again and already having been bumped up...
Loud and Clear Statement
The Bears came into this weekend with a surprising 6-3 record, which placed them atop the NFC North. But the division and the Bears schedule in general was pretty weak through the first 9 games of the seaon. The Bears wins came against the likes of the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions. Lots of questions remained about how the team would fare when opposing one of the league's top teams.
Windy Win
Any true Chicagoan knows the true origin of the Windy City nickname, but when events like Sunday's Bears-49ers game are broadcast nationwide it's no wonder that people think it has to do with our weather. Playing in winds gusting to nearly 50 mph, the game saw a number of unusual plays that impacted both teams. The Bears overcame kicking difficulties, an interception in the end zone and three Bobby Wade fumbles on punt returns...
Bears Win Again
The Bears traveled down to Baton Rouge this weekend to play the nomadic New Orleans Saints, and returned to Chicago with a 20-17 victory, improving their record to 5-3. In front of a stadium 2/3 empty, the Bears won in spite of a subpar first half and the loss of Thomas Jones in the second half. the win gives the Bears their first 4-game winning streak since 2001. "Good football teams find a way to...
Bears Alone in First
The Bears and Detroit Lions faced off yesterday in Detroit with first place in the NFC North at stake. While they couldn't finish the job in regulation, the Bears eventually beat the Lions -- winning 19-13 when Peanut Tillman ran an interception back for a TD in overtime. After Tillman picked off Lion QB Jeff Garcia, safety Mike Brown pointed him towards the end zone. Just in case he didn't know where it was,...
Bears Win Defensive Battle
In a game that featured two of the NFL's top defenses and two offenses relying on backup QBs, the Bears beat the Baltimore Ravens 10-6 at Soldier Field. The Bears marched 78 yards down the field and scored a TD at the end of the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. The rest of the game's scoring was limited to 3 field goals -- two by the Ravens in the 2nd quarter and one...
Bears Trounce Reeling Vikings
While the Bears had a pretty bad week that included blowing a game to the Browns in the final minutes and cutting ties with their kicker, the Vikings had a much worse week. Combine that with the Vikings 1-3 record despite being picked by most to win the NFC North, and Chicagoist felt this week's matchup might be an opportunity for the Bears to turn things around. That's just what the Bears did, beating the...
Late Collapse Dooms Bears
There's been very little Chicago Bears football that could be called pretty this season, but they've sometimes shown just enough to make us think they might be able to win the weak NFC North. They entered Sunday's games in first place with a 1-2 record, and for a while it looked like they'd even up their record. However, a low scoring affair between two offensively inept teams changed in the final three minutes and the...
The Bengals are That Good...
While visions of playoff danced in Bears Fans' heads after last week's 37-6 victory over the Lions, another group of cats brought them back down to earth yesterday. The Cincinnati Bengals won 24-7, picking off Kyle Orton 5 times. While the Bears fall to 1-2 on the season, the Bengals are a surprising 3-0 for the first time since 1990. Are they really that good? Yeah, they are... Some may point the finger at Bears...
Bears Beat Lions 38-6
Something told Chicagoist that the Bears had the potential to be a pretty good football team this season, and Sunday's game was about what we'd imagined a good Bears team might look like. Scoring in just about every possible way, the Bears beat the Detroit Lions 38-6. The 38 points were the largest offensive output by the Bears since 1993. The game was truly a team effort as the offense capitalized on turnovers caused by...
Bears Lose Opener to Redskins 9-7
After 5 preseason games with included a Apprentice-like quarterback competition but no first round draft pick, we finally got to see the real Chicago Bears as they opened the regular season in Washington against the Redskins. As Chicagoist expected, the Bears-Redskins game was a low scoring affair with two of last year's three worst offenses playing each other. Washington won 9-7, with their three field goals enough offense to counter the lone TD in the game -- scored by the Bears.
Are You Ready?
Are you ready for some Bears football? Chicagoist sure is! The preseason is over, the roster is set and the Bears head into 2005 full of optimism but with a rookie QB leading the offense. Will they see an improvement over last year's woeful 5-11 campaign? Or will they continue to languish at the bottom of the NFL standing? With the Bears season starting on Sunday, we thought we'd take a look at what's in...
Bears Schedule Released
The NFL released its 2005 schedule yesterday, which of course means we learn the Bears' 2005 schedule. Once again, the Bears are denied any Monday Night games. Their only prime time game is their Dec. 18th Sunday night game against Atlanta that will be shown on ESPN. Date Opponent Time 9/11 at Washington Redskins 12:00 p.m. 9/18 Detroit Lions 12:00 p.m. 9/25 Cinncinati Bengals 12:00 p.m. 10/2 Bye 10/9 at Cleveland Browns 12:00 p.m....
With the 4th Pick...
Another painful Bears season wrapped up Sunday, with the Packers avenging their earlier loss 31-14. In the rout, the Packers tied a team record with 9 sacks. And the Packers, having already locked up the NFC North title, mostly played their backups. Packers QB Brett Favre sat after the Pack took a 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter. No matter, they still killed the Bears.
We Can Dance if We Want To
The Safety Dance, of course. Because the Bears knocked off the Tennesee Titans in OT by scoring a safety, giving them a 19-17 victory. The Bears victory was only the second overtime game in the history of the NFL won on a safety.
