Trent Reznor took to Twitter today to announce the dates for the upcoming NIN tour - allegedly their last - and the Chicago dates are August 28 and 29, both shows at the Aragon Ballroom. The NIN.com presale for both dates is July 17 and general on-sale will be July 31. Mew will open both dates.

Trent Reznor announced there would be a final couple of dates forthcoming for Nine Inch Nails' farewell tour and Chicago was one of the lucky handful of cities to snag an appearance. Reznor said "the NIN/JA tour felt like we had to rush through sets due to a limited allotted set length and many shows were in daylight - it just didn't feel right to end NIN that way ... These should be cool, unusual and unique shows." While the Chicago date hasn't been set yet, Reznor did say they would be playing the Aragon. Count us in that sweaty mosh pit. [NIN Forum]
Trent Reznor just opened NIN/JA 2009, a site offering a free download of a mini-sampler of unreleased tracks from Nine Inch Nails and Lollapalooza headliner Jane's Addiction. Personally, we're super stoked to hear studio demo version of old Jane's faves like "Chip Away" and "Whores!" Get it.
Evanston's Eddie Vedder -- a hometown boy who has since made good in a little band named Pearl Jam -- performed the first of two sold-out solo shows at The Auditorium Theatre last Thursday. We admit we went into the show with low expectations since we honestly do enjoy Vedder but were less than impressed with his first solo outing, the Into The Wild soundtrack. We figured selections from that album would feature prominently and we weren't too excited about that prospect.
If you were holding off on picking up tickets to this year's Lollapalooza until you knew for sure when your favorite bands were playing, the day-by-day schedule just went up this morning. We still kind of wish Radiohead was closing out Sunday instead of playing Friday, forcing us to sprint a mile or so in 15-minutes so we can see The Raconteurs too. And I guess we'll be missing Wilco at Lolla for the second time, since Rage Against The machine is a must-see in our book Saturday night. Also, the head-to-head match between Kanye West and Nine Inch Nails on Sunday night is going to be super interesting. Wonder how that will play out?
Jesus Kee-rist, Trent Reznor is on a roll. Mere weeks after the release of the instrumental Nine Inch Nails quadruple album Ghosts I-IV, he's released the newest "pop" album by the band, The Slip. While Ghosts offered a tiered pricing plan, The Slip is available absolutely and completely free. Formats include MP3, FLAC, lossless M4A, and even WAV files. DRM-free. Creative Commons copyright. Super-fast download. And the songs ain't bad at all either!
DeRo has the lowdown on a bunch of other confirmed Lollapalooza acts. We already knew Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and Rage Against The machine would be headlining, but now you can add Racontuers, Kanye West, and Wilco to that list. We'd bitch about the fact that three of the six headliners have already played Lolla, which in its current incarnation is still a neophyte, but fuck it, we love all the headliners so we'll keep our trap shut.
Early-bird cheapie 3-day passes for Lollapalooza went on sale this morning and, unsurprisingly, sold-out almost immediately. Since the bill has yet to be announced, folks who got the tickets are putting their faith in the promoters to not screw them over with lame-o acts. We're still reasonably convinced Radiohead will be headlining one of the nights, so in our estimation the $60 would be worth that alone.
As a result of connections we made through our day of schmoozing and taking bribes like we were George Ryan, Chicagoist was invited to attend yet another exclusive Lexus event last night at Reserve.
You know a band is cool when the lead singer, who happens to be a big time celebrity, crouches over a cheap PA sans soundman and adjusts all of the levels himself.
