Last week, we were lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of pastry-making at NoMI, the beautiful temple of French cuisine in the Park Hyatt. Frederic Moreau, the talented pastry chef, invited us into his marble-clad station, tucked away into a small nook off the dining room, to watch him work his magic.

Sheffield's is hosting a craft beer social Thursday starting at 7 p.m. The $25 per person event grants you samples of rare specialty selections from Goose Island, Two Brothers, Three Floyds, Great Lakes Brewing, New Holland, Lagunitas, Dark Horse, and Sierra Nevada. Representatives from each brewery will also be on hand to discuss the selections.

Chicago Gourmet Chefs' List Grows
Just added to the list of participants for September's Chicago Gourmet event are Koren Grieveson of avec, Jose Garces of Mercat a la Planxa, the Hearty Boys duo of Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh, Takashi's Takashi Yagihashi, Christophe David of NoMI and Terrance Brennan of the soon-to-open Chicago location of his Artisanal Bistro and Wine Bar.
