The Morning After

The Bulls didn't have quite enough gas to get by the Pacers last night, falling 100-90 in Indianapolis. It was a close game early, but the Pacers used a 12-3 run in the second quarter to stretch out their lead to seven at the half and never looked back. Derrick Rose had 27 points to lead the Bulls (31-28) while Luol Deng scored 13 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. The Bulls get tonight off before welcoming the Atlanta Hawks to town tomorrow night (7 p.m., WGN). more ›

The Morning After: Olympian Blackhawks Advance

The Morning After: Olympian Blackhawks Advance

All six Olympic Blackhawks advanced to tomorrow's semifinal round of the men's ice hockey tournament. First up, Patrick Kane and Team USA topped Switzerland 2-0 to advance to tomorrow's semifinals where they'll take on Finland (2 p.m., NBC 5). Next up, a still-ticked off Team Canada crushed Russia 7-3. Both Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith were credited with two assists each while Brent Seabrook made the box score thanks to two minutes in the penalty box. That trio of 'Hawks advance to the semis to take on Tomas Kopecky, Marian Hossa and the rest of Team Slovokia after they upset Sweden 4-3. Kopecky netted what would be the winning goal and Hossa contributed three assists in the big win. It'll be the Battle of the Blackhawks (8:30 p.m., CNBC) for a shot at the gold medal. more ›

The Morning After: Blackhawks, Bulls Pull Out Wins

The Morning After: Blackhawks, Bulls Pull Out Wins

It took extra hockey, but the Blackhawks manage to wrangle a 4-3 shoot-out win over the Dallas Stars. The entire game was a back-and-forth affair. Dallas opened the scoring about midway through the first period with a power-play goal only to have Patrick Kane answer with his 23rd goal of the season. A few minutes later, Dallas scored again and, again, Patrick Kane answered as his 24th goal of the season tied the game at 2-2 after the first. A scoreless second period gave way to a Troy Brouwer goal early in the third period but Dallas would respond with a late goal to force overtime with the score tied at 3-3. Kris Versteeg scored the winning (and only) goal in the shoot-out, which went five rounds. Antti Niemi got 24 saves in goal for the 'Hawks, including five in OT and two in the shoot-out. The 'Hawks now take their two-game win streak into the final two games before the Olympic break, starting at home Saturday night against Atlanta (7:30 p.m., WGN). more ›

Quarterback C.J. Bacher tossed two third quarter touchdowns to give Northwestern a lead over Michigan they wouldn't relinquish on their way to a 21-14 win over the Wolverines. Bacher finished with 198 yards passing and two touchdowns with two interceptions. It was an ugly weather day as precipitation switched between rain and snow, forcing Michigan to go to the ground which wasn't enough as they found themselves looking at the school's first-ever eight loss season. As for the Wildcats, they're enjoying their first eight win season since 2000, which also happens to be the last time they beat Michigan (a crazy 54-51 overtime win). They close out the season next week in Evanston against Illinois. more ›

Bulls Don't Win the Lottery

Bulls Don't Win the Lottery

Maybe we got a bit ahead of ourselves when we dreamed of Greg Oden trading in the red jersey of Ohio St. for a red Bulls uni, on account of the Bulls holding the right to swap picks with the New York Knicks in this year's draft as part of the Eddy Curry trade. But you saw how bad the Knicks were in '06, right? And then they added Isiah Thomas to their bench as... more ›

Bulls Making Late Playoffs Push

Bulls Making Late Playoffs Push

Chicagoist has pretty much given up on the Bulls making the playoffs. Sure, we were diappointed for a while that they took a big step back from the progress last year's team made. Especially during that time between the Super Bowl and March Madness when they were about the only show in town. But we'd found solace in their likely two lottery picks -- including a very good shot at the first pick from the... more ›

Excitement at the United Center

Excitement at the United Center

It's been a while since there's been as much excitement at the UC as there was last night. The Bulls won an exciting 106-104 game on a Ben Gordon shot as time expired in OT. Having missed a nearly identical shot with seconds left in regulation when he could have dished to an open Darius Songaila, he redeemed himself with the game winner. But that shot may not have been the biggest excitement at the UC. more ›

Ain't the National Bling Association

Back in the old days players knew how to dress well, but with players' dress becoming increasingly casual in recent years NBA Commissioner David Stern decided it was time to institute a dress code for NBA players when they are participating in team or league activities. Some of course, accuse the league of trying to remove the hip-hop from the league to make it more palatable to corprate and suburban interests. more ›
