While the state government devolves into a teeming cesspool of Machiavellian intrigue and self-loathing (quickly becoming an annual tradition in one form or another here in the Land of Lincoln), the world of politics moves on. While we have no problem kicking around Blagojevich (and the other asshole cynics downstate), this week, we're putting it aside, damn it! You know what debt feels like. All those student loans, some old hospital bills, that killer LCD TV you just picked up. It all adds up. However, no one should know what it feels like to be in debt better than former Blagojevich fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko. According to reports, the man's in the hole to the tune of more than 50 million dollars.
For about a week now news stories have been swirling around about some of Gov. Rob Blagojevich's top fundraisers and various state and city contracts. The restaurants, supposedly operated by black concessionaire, Jabir Herbert Muhammad, received their contracts as part of a...

Shouldn't the owner be getting in big-ass trouble by Burger King? Do you think they'll get a Rick...
Chicagoist hasn't actually eaten Papa John's pizza for about 5 years, but still found it interesting that franchise owner Antoin "Tony" Rezko basically flipped Papa John's the bird and renamed his 30 stores in Chicagoland after himself - Papa Tony's. Rezko has long battled with Papa John's and this move reduces the number of Chicago-area Papa John's stores to just 6. The fight is apparently over the pricing of pizza ingredients and the licensing of nearby rival Papa John's restaurants. It all came to a head when Papa John's terminated Rezko's franchise license in early May and filed a lawsuit against Rezko .. so Rezko said "screw off", started sourcing products from new suppliers, developed a new marketing plan, and covered the Papa John's signs with vinyl tarps bearing the name Papa Tony's. Papa John's is planning to add stores back to the Chicago market, which is the nation's second largest pizza market, after New York.
