Last night, the New England Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 in Super Bowl XXXIX. A pretty ugly game throughout, at least it was a close game from start to finish. Last night's game was only the second Super Bowl ever to go into halftime with a tie. And the first time a Super Bowl ever entered the 4th quarter tied. After 10 straight points by the Pats, the Eagles could only counter with 7 of their own before time expired, giving New England it's third NFL title in 4 seasons.

Sure, it's been a while since the Bears played in the Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean that there are no Chicago ties to this year's big game. When the Philadelphia Eagles take on the New England Patriots (the ones the Bears beat 46-10 in Super Bowl XX), there will be plenty of locally grown players as well as a number of former Bears.

This week, the Philadelphia Eagles came to Soldier Field and left with a 19 - 9 victory. Backup QB Jonathan Quinn, starting in place of the injured Rex Grossman completed 26 of 43 passes for 215 yards, clearly was overmatched in his first NFL start in 3 years. And what was with the Bears abandoning the running game? You're starting a rusty QB, you've got the NFC's leading rusher in your backfield, and you only run 13 times? If Terry Shea keeps doing things like that, Chicago may start demanding they bring back John Shoop! Well at least Chicagoist can rest assured that the Bears won't lose this coming weekend -- it's their bye week. And they've still beaten the Packers!
