After Chicagoist spotlighted the annual Chicago Polar Plunge for Special Olympics over the weekend, we decided to head down to North Avenue beach yesterday to watch the festivities and grab some photos. Sure, we knew it was going to be cold, but as lifelong Chicagoans that wasn't going to stop us, nor were the snow flurries or the wind. But as the 30 m.p.h. gusts hit us on the bridge over Lake Shore Drive, we had a sinking feeling and regretted not having a scarf or ski mask. And by the time an announcement was made that the start of the plunge was going to be delayed, we had enough of the stinging ice whipping in our face and bailed. Jim Cantore, your job is safe. (And yes, we realize how ridiculous we are complaining about the cold when people were jumping in the lake half naked for charity.)
While walking the floor of the Chicago Auto Show this weekend, we snapped away to document all of the interesting models on display. From the most eco-friendly, to the sexiest exotic cars, to futuristic concepts, these are what we found to be the most interesting at this year's show.
Sloan played Double Door last Monday and we were lucky enough to catch them rip through a blistering set in top form. After the show we headed down the street to check out Rehab at evilOlive and had a surprisingly good time. We recommend checking it out sometime.
Hey, today is the Day of National Concern about Young People and Gun Violence. Eee, we forgot to sound out our DoNCaYPaGV cards—boy is our face red! Oh, we're sassy, but we're against gun violence. Students across our fair nation took the pledge today, and according to a press release, Lisa Madigan, Arnie Duncan, and Miss Illinois Michelle LaGroue were on hand to celebrate with a rally. Boo, guns! Yay, Miss Illinois!
