An 8-year-old boy was mauled by a pit bull on the far South Side today. Police say he's in very serious condition. The Stacy Peterson madness continues. Illinois state police served Drew Peterson with a new warrant so they can keep his cars and the eight guns they seized as part of the investigation for longer. And divers searched Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal in Romeoville and Lockport today for any clues to Stacy's disappearance....

One thing that we could never abide was vicious dogs. The problem, you see, usually isn't the dog at all, but the crap-for-brains people who've abused them, neglected them, or trained them to be man eaters.

It seems the list of “dangerous dog breeds” just got a little longer. We are, of course, talking about Pomeranians. That’s right, those fluffy little buggers can be pretty mean, as one unsuspecting pit bull found out last week.

Chicagoist has a big soft spot for dogs. Seriously, they turn us into baby-talking morons. Which is why this story makes us want to cry.

You can't turn a TV to any local station this week without seeing a story about pit bull attacks. On Sunday, three pit bulls escaped from their home in McHenry County and attacked six people, including two children who are still in the hospital in critical condition. Then on Wednesday, police had to shoot three dogs, one pit bull and two mixes, after someone released them while the officers were breaking up a gang fight.

Remember those 72 chihuahuas found in a Wheeling home last month? Well the Heartland Animal Shelter in in Northbrook that took them in is having trouble paying the bills. The shelter is spending $1500 a day to house the dogs, prepare their meals, and buy thousands of tiny plastic bags to pick up their poo. But the biggest cost for the shelter: their phone bill. An employee told NBC 5 that their phone and voicemail bill jumped to $1,200 after the deluge of calls from people interested in adopting the puppies.

Your carpet is stained so badly you can't remember its original color. People cross the street when they see you coming.
