Last night marked the official beginning of the 2008 presidential season. The close of the Iowa Democratic caucuses saw Barack Obama with 37 percent, John Edwards with 30 percent, and Hillary Clinton in third place with 29 percent of the votes, with 99 percent of Iowa precincts reporting. On the Republican side Mike Huckabee was the big winner.

Moving forward in our quest to give you readers some options for going out on New Year's Eve so you aren't procrastinating.

This post contains spoilers about last night's Top Chef. When last we checked in with our friends on Top Chef, we prophesied that Brian and Dale would be the next two contestants to head home. Brian, you had a good run, but we aren't sad to see you pack your knives—especially if it means one more chance for Dale. The four finalists went to Colorado (similar to how last years' finalists went to Hawaii). Like...

The Bears and Colts met for a pre-season rematch of Super Bowl XLI on Monday night, with the Bears winning 27-24. Of greatest concern for Bears fans is the apparent return of Bad Rex last night. The Bears' quarterback fumbled the ball three times and threw an interception in his limited duty. Yikes! Even when Rex's stat lines look respectable -- 9 of 11 for 59 yards and scored a touchdown, his inconsistency strikes fear...

Today, New Line announced the cast for the upcoming film adaptation of The Time Traveler's Wife. Genetically gifted/cursed, Henry DeTamble, will be played by Eric Bana (Incredible Hulk, Troy) and his wife, Clare Abshire, will be Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Wedding Crashers). The rights to the book were purchased by Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's Plan B production company back in 2003. At the time the studio was in discussions with Gus Van Sant to...

With the Bears' season over, Chicagoist has focused our attention to basketball, specifically the Bulls. With their home arena invaded by Princesses on Ice, the Bulls spent the past two weeks wandering out West in their second extended road trip of the season. Sunday, the Bulls concluded their seven-game road trip by knocking off the Phoenix Suns, handing the NBA's second-best team their first double-digit loss of the season. With that win, the Bulls finished...

It’s been a rough day for Republicans what with the whole loss of power in the House and possibly the Senate, Rumsfeld’s resignation, and getting used to the idea of Nancy Pelosi as the first female speaker of the House. Are we forgetting anything? Oh probably. Who can keep track anymore?

In a blow to sexually frustrated, judgmental pharmacists throughout Illinois, the state will now require them to post signs outlining women’s rights to contraceptives. The order is an enforcement measure for Gov. Blagojevich’s executive order requiring pharmacies to fill emergency contraception prescriptions if they dispense birth control. In addition, the signs explain where a woman can file a complaint if their prescription is denied. It reminds us a little of those signs on drive-thru windows...

Chicagoist is all about trying new bars. Whether it be a just-opened hot spot or simply new to you, variety is the spice of life. But, even the most adventurous of us grow weary on the hunt for a good time. Everyone needs a Plan B, and most often, that backup plan involves heading to the comforting embrace of your neighborhood bar. For Chicagoist, when all else fails, we find ourselves at Nick’s Beer Garden....

Raizel Performances is a Chicago-based dance company that you may not have heard of. They describe themselves as "fledgling, underground and independent modern" (lots o' adjectives!). Last year they had 2 small shows (Fall 2004 and Spring 2005) and they're having another this March at the Open End Gallery. They plan to raise the bar this time and have a large orchestra on stage with them for the performance.

Next week is Thanksgiving.

Chicagoist knows it OK to make mistakes so long as we use them as learning experiences. That's what we heard from parents, teachers and bosses through the years. Unfortunately, the Bears brass didn't seem to learn that lesson. Last year's fiasco of a season resulted primarily because the team lacked capable backups at quarterback when Rex Grossman went down in week 3 with torn knee ligaments. Bears fans endured watching Jonathan Quinn, Craig Krenzel...
