USA Soccer To Play Poland At Soldier Field In October
US Soccer announced yesterday that the boys are coming back to Chicago for a friendly against Poland on October 9. With the huge Polish community in Chicago, as well as Poland needing serious tuneup work before the 2012 Euro Cup, which they're hosting along with Ukraine, the game looks promising. USAMNT have an okay history against Poland (who did not qualify for this summer's World Cup). The 3-1 drubbing at the 2002 World Cup wasn't much fun, but the 3-0 win in 2008 sort of balances that.
Search Still On For Seweryn
The search to recover the bodies of victims from this weekend's horrific Polish plane crash, including Chicago-based artist Wojciech Seweryn, continues. Of the process of identifying the remains that have been recovered, Polish Health Minister Ewa Kopacz said, “It’s not an easy procedure. In many cases, it’s only possible to identify the dead with the help of genetic expertise.” Seweryn's daughter has sent a DNA sample to assist in identifying his remains. The sculptor was among 96 people, including Poland's President Lech Kaczynski and several senior military officials, that died in the plane crash. Seweryn, who was born in Poland but immigrated to the United States in 1976, was accompanying the Polish president and other senior officials to the 70th anniversary commemoration of the Katyn Massacre in Russia, in which the Soviet Secret Police murdered thousands of Polish officers, intellectuals, and priests.
Chicago-Based Polish Sculptor Dies In Plane Crash
The death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and 96 other passengers in a terrifying plane crash in Russia shocked the world, and it has also stunned the local Polish community. Among the plane crash victims was sculptor Wojciech Seweryn a celebrated Polish artist with strong ties to Chicago.
Artist Displays "Who Killed Barack Obama?"
The Obama Art Report contacted Fuss to get his explanation of the controversial piece. His response:
This is not a piece of work against Obama, as much as it is not an act of support for McCain. Neither is this work about less or more probable Obama's assassination. This piece of art is about global thought of Obama's unavoidable death. About the fact that so many people in the entire world share one opinion: Barack Obama is to follow the same story as Kennedy, Lincoln, M.L.King or Malcolm X previously did. And this is due to various reasons: cause he is young, alike Kennedy, cause his black, because he is ready for the radical change. Politicians fall into the same stereotype of thinking. Even Hillary Clinton expressed the same view.more ›
