Many people in the area know A Christmas Story was originally based on author Jean Shephard's experience of growing up in Hammond. Sadly, it appears a one Hammond fourth-grader hasn't seen the movie or just didn't heed its warning. He should have known better than to try to lick a pole in this kind of weather, but he did anyway.
