Comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U' Know, NYC's purveyor of the crass and offensive, will make a one-night-only appearance at the Lakeshore Theater this Thursday. Known for their delightful vulgarity, the Kids will tackle everything from celebrity worship to potty humor, and will no doubt throw some beastiality somewhere in the mix. Prepare to giggle nervously.

Goose Island's been working a lot with rye malt recently. Their Juliet ale, brewed with rye, marionberries and aged for six months in Robert Kraig cabernet casks, has been a popular selection among those Chicagoist staffers who've tasted it (Jacy and myself). This week, we're featuring another rye-based Goose Island offering that's been flying off shelves.

You'd think that, writing for a large blog, we'd be able to keep up with RSS feeds and tips. So how the Chicago chapter of the Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails went past our head is beyond us. Should've known that Sonja Kassebaum of North Shore Distillery was the mastermind behind this. Currently, LUPEC Chicago has nine members, including Master Mixologist Bridget Albert of Southern Wine and Spirits of Illinois.

If you feel that once a year is far too little to expose the zombie within, well friend, this weekend holds a not one but two lovely gooey brains for you. Tomorrow holds both the first annual Zombie Pub Crawl followed by a triple zombie feature at the Midway Drive In in Sterling! Gurr.

There were some firecrackers a-poppin' last night: today is the first day of the first Lunar Month. So that means it's beginning of the Chinese New Year Festival, which started at midnight and traditionally lasts until February 15. Also known as the Lunar New Year, festivities are meant to celebrate and welcome the Year of the Rat.

Two years ago, we had the pleasure of meeting Bob Lempinen, an executive Vice President at Distinguished Brands International. Distinguished Brands imports O'Hara's Irish Stout in the U.S. Lempinen insisted that O'Hara's was better than Guinness. We thought it was nothing more than him pushing his portfolio hard - he said that about all the beers he carried - and went along our way. Months passed, at a friend's birthday party we had the opportunity...

That time of the year is over, we have gorged ourselves on turkey and mashed potatoes and we wouldn’t mind a little break from the family, so this weekend is the perfect time to break back into the action.

This weekend we thought we would get you in that holiday spirit with some Christmas parties and shopping. With all that family and travel next weekend, this is really your last weekend of the year to let loose. As always, feel free to leave information on other events around the city in the comments section.

glass.jpgThe Drinking and Writing series is the perfect libation for theater enthusiasts and beer lovers. Each low-maintenance, high-buzz show is a collection of meticulously researched history, anecdote, editorial, and clever party tricks presented by three Neo-Futurists in a watering hole of choice. Since 2002, they’ve mostly stuck to bars around town with regular travel around the country and an engagement at the Edinburgh Fringe Fest. Wherever they go, the Neos ask why so many great writers are inveterate drinkers.

This week brings an embarrassment of riches for art lovers. Longer, warmer days inspire artists, collectors, and curious bystanders to hook up, talk art, and put some serious coin in a few dealers’ and artists’ pockets. Everyday through Friday we’ll be featuring the highlights of another spring festival, helping you stay sane in these frenzied days of wheeling and dealing.

Hurricanes be damned, the spirit of Mardi Gras is alive and well in New Orleans. This weekend, give it up Chicago style with several fundraising events happening around the city.

If your inner Bad Santa is dying to get out and express itself then we've found the perfect event for you. Santarchy. Yeh, you heard us: SANTARCHY. Santarchy is a nonplitical, non-religious, not-for-profit (free), demented Santa Claus convention. A mass gathering of Santa Clauses that will spread a little disruptive, holiday cheer to everyone they encounter. It's part prank, part culture jam, part pub crawl. Santarchy events are worldwide. This year's 2nd Annual Chicago Santarchy...
